Scalp Micropigmentation in Dallas

FAQs

What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) uses a non-surgical method to deposit plant-based pigments into the scalp’s dermal layer, creating a natural appearance. These pigments replicate hair follicles to look at a full head of hair. For those who are completely bald, SMP can provide a shadow-like effect. If you have a receding hairline or need extra density after a hair transplant, SMP is an excellent option.

How many SMP treatment sessions should I expect?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) usually involves two sessions spaced one week apart. Since the skin, the body's largest organ may initially reject some pigment, we account for this in our treatment process. Significant improvements are typically seen after the first session, with more noticeable results after the second session. If needed, a third session may be scheduled 1 to 3 months later to refine the final results.

How long will each treatment take?

Each procedure typically lasts 2 to 4 hours, depending on the extent of the work. The first session is usually the longest because it involves shaping the hairline and applying the initial layer of hair. Subsequent sessions are generally shorter, though their duration can vary depending on the results of previous treatments.

Who will determine the hairline construction?

The ideal hairline for you depends on several factors. We customize your hairline to fit your unique features for the most natural and appropriate result. We also take your personal preferences into account, as different options can create a natural look for different individuals.

What am I going to do after undergoing 3 treatments?

Once you follow the initial aftercare instructions, you can fully enjoy the benefits of your SMP treatment. Our treatment plans come with a one-year guarantee. If you experience any pigment changes or color fading during this period, we will fix it at no extra charge. We will also follow up with you in a few years.

After my SMP treatment, how long does the phrase “a few years” will actually take?

Generally, clients may need touch-ups within 5 to 8 years after their treatment. While SMP is a permanent procedure, normal skin wear and tear can cause the pigment to lighten over time.

What are the aftercare instructions?

To minimize fading and other issues, it is important to adhere to our post-treatment guidelines for the first four days. Avoid touching, washing, or cutting the treated area, and refrain from exercising during this period. You can wear a hat right after the procedure. If you're worried about pigment transferring to your pillows while you sleep, it won't happen. Please refer to the attached PDF for detailed aftercare instructions.

Will I need to take some days off of work after the SMP treatment?

Scalp-to-scalp micropigmentation is a minimally invasive and non-surgical procedure, so there’s no required recovery time. Just follow the postoperative instructions for four days. Most clients can even return to work the day after their treatment.

Will people notice a difference in color after the SMP treatment?

Right after the initial treatment, the pigments may look more intense. As your skin heals, you'll observe a change in color and a gradual softening of the pigments. The redness should subside within 48 to 72 hours. The extent of redness varies depending on skin sensitivity, but most clients see a significant decrease after 48 hours. Once the initial settling phase is over, the results of your treatment will appear completely natural.

Is the SMP procedure going to hurt?

Most people who have SMP find the discomfort to be milder than that of a traditional tattoo. However, pain tolerance varies among individuals. Your health and safety are our top priorities, so our specialists work to make the procedure as efficient and comfortable as possible.

Will I need to keep a shaved head?

We will assess your hair loss during your session or through an online evaluation. After understanding the type of hair loss you have, we will create a customized treatment plan that takes into account your current style and the look we recommend for optimal results with our SMP method.

With SMP, the coverage on the crown of your head may require regular haircuts for those with Norwood 6-7 hair loss to maintain the look. As your natural hair grows on the back and sides, the contrast between your hair color and the SMP may become more noticeable. Since the pigmentation used in SMP does not grow or create a three-dimensional texture, it is considered a permanent cosmetic surgery.

Filler procedures increase the thickness and density of hair in the hairline and/or crown area. Clients with existing hair in the treatment area are ideal for these treatments, as they help blend the SMP with their natural hair.

Do your services include scar concealment?

Certainly! Our services go beyond addressing male pattern baldness, as scalp micropigmentation (SMP) has various applications. SMP can effectively cover scars from previous procedures or injuries, including those from FUE and FUT transplants.

Before the SMP procedure, will I be required to cut my hair?

For filler treatments or scar concealment, we generally ask clients to come with their hair trimmed to the desired shortest length unless advised otherwise. Clients with category 6 or 7 hair loss should shave their heads before the procedure and continue to keep them shaved during the treatment.

To ensure optimum maintenance after the treatment, what should I do?

During your therapy, our team will offer product recommendations to help you. For a free consultation and more details on these suggestions, please click the link on this page.

Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?

You can keep shaving and washing your hair regularly without affecting the treatment, as it is applied to the scalp scars rather than the outer skin layer. Most of our patients who have had this procedure shave daily!

How to protect my newly pigmented hair from the sun?

Extended exposure to direct sunlight can weaken the pigments over time and damage the treatment and your scalp. It's essential to use sunscreen or wear a hat if you'll be in the sun for more than an hour, regardless of the weather.

How much will the SMP treatment cost?

SMP pricing is tailored to individual factors like the level of hair loss and the amount of treatment needed. Usually, the first two sessions are spaced one week apart, with the third session scheduled one to three months after the second. Scar concealing therapy usually costs between $800 and $1,000 per session. Treating hair loss in categories 2-4 generally ranges from $2,400 to $3,400, while categories 5-7 are priced between $3,400 and $4,200. A three-session series covering the top of the scalp and scar concealment typically costs between $4,200 and $5,200.

When are payments for the SMP procedure will fall due?

To confirm your treatments with us, we require a $400 reservation deposit. Appointments are usually scheduled 8 weeks ahead. The deposit is split equally between the first two sessions, and we also offer financing options for your convenience.
