SMP Repair
At Zang SMP, we take pride in having the most experienced and expertly skilled practitioners in the entire industry. Throughout the years we have watched scalp micropigmentation become immensely popular as one of the most effective solutions for hair loss, and with that popularity comes a large influx of new practitioners entering the field.
Unfortunately, we have also witnessed a large influx of botched SMP clients who come to us for repair work after having their SMP done somewhere else.
In order for SMP to look completely natural, it has to be done by a highly skilled practitioner with meticulous attention to detail. Botched SMP treatments occur when the practitioner uses improper technique, improper equipment, or a combination of both. This creates large blotchy dots, unnatural-looking hairlines, uneven density, excessive darkness, and/or a blue tone to the pigment. A bad SMP treatment can completely ruin a person’s appearance; this is why the importance of choosing a highly experienced practitioner cannot be stressed enough.
What is SMP?
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical procedure that is used to treat male-pattern baldness. It is a designed form of tattooing applied to your scalp that gives the appearance of hair follicles.
At Zang SMP, we use organic, plant-based pigments that are deposited into the scalp. Because these pigments mimic the appearance of hair follicles, the result is life-changing. Rather than having a bald head, SMP treatment gives you a cropped (buzzed) look.
With SMP, your head of hair will look how you want. If you suffer from poor quality SMP work, we can help.
Do You Need SMP Repair?
SMP is a cosmetic treatment that replicates the appearance of hair follicles. However, when it goes wrong, it can be noticeable and distressing. Here are signs that you might need SMP repair:
- SMP appears blotchy or uneven
- The color of SMP has turned blue or green
- Hairline edges are unnaturally sharp or defined
- Patches of SMP are fading inconsistently
- Overall SMP density doesn't match natural hair density
- SMP dots are too large, giving a spotted look
- Previous SMP work has begun to migrate or spread
- The SMP does not blend seamlessly with natural hair
- Visible scarring not properly camouflaged by SMP
- You're unhappy with the overall look of your SMP
If you notice any of these issues, it might be time to consider SMP repair. At Zang SMP, we use specialized techniques to correct these problems, improving the appearance and confidence without the need for laser removal.
Benefits of SMP Repair
If you're dealing with a botched SMP job, SMP repair can offer significant benefits to improve both the look and your satisfaction with the treatment. Here are the key advantages specifically tailored for those needing SMP repair:

Concerns Addressed with SMP
SMP can treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Male pattern baldness
- Female pattern baldness
- Thinning hair, including thin hair on the sides of your head and on the top of your head
- Alopecia
- Scar tissue/scarring
- Hair follicle loss due to aging, genetics, hormones, auto-immune diseases, or medications
Is SMP a Scalp Tattoo?
SMP is similar to a traditional tattoo. But the needles, machine, and pigmentation used for treatment are different. Additionally, SMP treatment goes two layers deep into your skin, whereas a tattoo goes five layers deep or more.
How Many SMP Treatments Will I Need?
SMP repair is typically one to three treatments, depending on how much work is needed. Treatments one and two are typically one week apart. If a third treatment is needed, that will take place anywhere from 1 to 3 months later.
