Any semi-permanent or permanent makeup is applied through a process that’s similar to (but not the same as) tattooing. But unlike the traditional carbon-based tattoo ink used in the past for permanent makeup, there are newer pigments now specially formulated for the face and head. This is important because the skin on the face and head is different than on other parts of the body.
Scar camouflage head tattoos use scalp micropigmentation to give the illusion of hair growth. Pigments enter the skin to hide a scar through changing the pigment of the skin on and near the scar. The resulting pigmentation gives the appearance of a buzzed scalp. When combined with thinning hair, it gives the illusion of better coverage.
The head scar camouflage process begins with an evaluation of the scarred area. The technician does this to determine whether or not the procedure is appropriate for the scar. Once they’ve finished the evaluation, they will choose a color or custom blend a color that will match the affected area.
