Hiding Hair Transplant Scars with Scalp Micropigmentation
A hair transplant is a surgical technique that transfers hair follicles from one side of the body where the hair is growing naturally (the donor site), to the other side that has thin or no hair (the recipient site).
There are two types of surgeries for hair transplant
- FUT (follicle unit transplantation)
- FUE (follicle unit excision)
- Follicle Unit Transplantation
In FUT, the surgeon removes a strip of 3-4 inches of scalp from where the hair is still growing (the donor area). This strip is then cut into several hundred to thousands of grafts. These small grafts are then inserted into the tiny slits of scalp where the hair has stopped growing (the recipient site). In this surgery, the doctor uses a surgical blade for transplantation which leaves a linear scar on that area. The scar in this surgery is a more obvious linear scar than the scars of FUE. With complex modern surgical technique, the scar for this treatment can be reduced to only 1mm of thickness. The scar after this surgery can hide behind the long hair of your head, but some people like to cut their hair short, which will reveal this scar and a linear line with no hair will be obvious.
- Follicle Unit Excision
In FUE, the surgeon removes the hair in the form of round patches from the donor area. Then these hair follicles are transplanted to the recipient side. These round patches leave black dot-like scars on the back of your head from where the hair follicles are transplanted. The scars of round patches instead of the linear scar are easy to conceal as they are less obvious. But for the people who like a short haircut, these scars will also be revealed.
Therefore, after hair transplant surgery, people come for Scalp Micropigmentation. Scalp Micropigmentation helps you to keep that look of short hair without revealing the marks of hair transplant surgery. It completely conceals the scars of hair transplant surgery and gives you the desired look of short hair.
Scalp Micro-Pigmentation
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical treatment for hair loss. It is a cosmetic tattoo that makes a thin hairline look denser. In this treatment, microneedles are used to tattoo the scalp of a bald person. It gives the appearance of a fully shaved head or a buzz cut on a bald head. The pigments are added to the dermal layer of the skin.
In Scalp Micropigmentation, the pigments are inserted on the upper layer of the scar tissues to give the area an illusion of hair follicles. The physician adds replicated follicles inside the scar to fill it up. He does this on the surrounding areas as well where the hair is thin, to give it a more natural look. This creates a better and even look throughout the area of the scar.
Scalp Micropigmentation takes three sessions. In the first session, we create the main hairline. We then ask the client to come after a week or two for the second session, in which some additional improvements are made. In the third session, final touches are done and the whole scar is covered up giving you the desired natural look.
