Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Seal Beach (SMP)
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is an advanced, non-surgical procedure in which natural pigments are applied to the upper layer of the scalp to simulate individual hair follicles. This creates a realistic appearance of thicker hair and improves the overall look of the scalp.
In Seal Beach, SMP is often selected by individuals looking for a tidy, buzzed hairstyle after experiencing hair loss. It is also effective for enhancing thinning areas or improving results from previous hair transplants by creating natural-looking visual density.
How many treatments do I need?
Seal Beach clients typically require at least two sessions spaced about seven days apart. The pigment applied in the first session may lighten slightly as the scalp heals, making a follow-up session necessary to reinforce color and detail. In some cases, a third touch-up session within one to three months may be recommended to achieve the most refined result.
How long is each treatment?
SMP sessions usually last two to four hours. The first session is longer because it includes designing a custom hairline and applying foundational pigment. Later sessions are typically shorter and focus on fine-tuning details and reinforcing pigment.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
In Seal Beach, your SMP technician works closely with you to design the hairline. Your facial features, preferences, and goals are all taken into account to produce a natural and flattering result that is uniquely yours.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
After three SMP sessions, clients can enjoy their results while adhering to aftercare instructions. Seal Beach clients are covered by a one-year warranty, providing complimentary touch-ups if any fading occurs. Most clients will not need additional treatment for several years.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
For most clients, SMP touch-ups are generally not required for five to eight years. While the treatment is designed to be long-lasting, environmental exposure and skin aging can slowly cause the pigment to fade over time.
What are the aftercare instructions?
After SMP, it is important to follow aftercare instructions carefully. Avoid getting the treated area wet, limit sweating, and do not cut your hair for the first four days. Hats and sleeping positions are unrestricted. We provide a detailed aftercare PDF to help guide the process.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
Correct. SMP is non-invasive and requires no downtime. Most Seal Beach clients return to normal work and activities immediately or shortly after their session. Following aftercare ensures proper healing and pigment retention.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
Initially, the pigment may appear darker and the scalp may show mild redness, but these effects generally subside within two to three days. Once healed, the pigment lightens to a natural shade that replicates real hair follicles.
Does it hurt?
SMP is much less painful than traditional tattoos. Our team takes every measure to ensure comfort, making the procedure smooth, easy, and stress-free.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
During your consultation, we evaluate your scalp and discuss your personal goals to create a plan tailored to your lifestyle. Seal Beach clients in the Norwood 6–7 range are usually recommended to maintain a clean-shaven look since SMP does not grow with your hair, and surrounding growth can look inconsistent.
If you are seeking density enhancement, pigment can be applied to existing hair to boost fullness. This is ideal for thinning areas in the crown or frontal regions, allowing clients to keep their hair length while enhancing visual density.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes, we provide effective scar concealment using SMP. This method reduces the visibility of scars from past hair transplants and other trauma. Many Seal Beach clients experience a significant confidence boost after we carefully blend pigment into scarred areas for a smooth and uniform appearance.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
If your SMP is for density enhancement or scar coverage, you should arrive with hair at its regular length. Clients in Norwood 6–7 are recommended to shave their heads before the session and maintain that shaved look afterward to keep results consistent.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
Our specialists provide comprehensive guidance on maintaining your SMP during your appointment. Seal Beach clients receive customized aftercare instructions to prolong results. You can also book a complimentary consultation to create a detailed maintenance plan specific to your treatment.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
There is no need for concern. Shaving will not interfere with SMP pigments. We also recommend shaving tools and scalp-care products that are compatible with SMP. Seal Beach clients can refer to our product guide to ensure the best results.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
No, regular shaving does not impact SMP. Pigments are deposited in the upper layers of the skin, so grooming, cleansing, and shaving are safe practices. Many Seal Beach clients continue to maintain a shaved style without issues like fading or irritation.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
Treatment pricing varies by zones and client needs. Most clients complete two sessions one week apart, with an optional third session within one to three months. Scar concealment typically costs $800–$1,000 per session. Norwood 2–4 stages usually range from $2,400–$3,400, while stages 5–7 cost $3,400–$4,200. Full procedures including scars range $4,200–$5,200.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
SMP results last longer when protected from sun exposure. Clients should wear hats or apply high-quality sunscreen when outdoors. Seal Beach residents who are frequently outdoors should take care to prevent early fading from UV exposure.
How much does it cost?
Costs depend on the area treated and whether scar concealment is included. Scar treatments are $800–$1,000 per session. General thinning or bald areas cost $2,400–$3,400 for Norwood 2–4, $3,400–$4,200 for stages 5–7, and full procedures with scars are $4,200–$5,200.
When are the payments due?
A $400 deposit confirms your booking. Appointments typically require an eight-week lead time. The remaining balance is divided between the first two sessions. Flexible financing options are available for Seal Beach clients.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!
Laura
I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
