Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Irvine Center (SMP)
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?
Scalp Micropigmentation in Irvine Center is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that offers an effective non-surgical solution to improve the appearance of hair loss. The treatment uses specialized pigments and exact application methods to reproduce the look of natural hair follicles across the scalp. This creates the illusion of a fuller head of hair and helps to hide thinning or sparse areas. People with severe hair loss can create a realistic effect of a close shave hairstyle. SMP is frequently utilized in conjunction with hair transplant procedures to enhance the look of total hair coverage and to create a more cohesive end result.
How many treatments do I need?
Most clients have Scalp Micropigmentation performed over two separate appointments. These sessions are spaced apart to allow the scalp to recover and to see how the pigment heals in the skin. More sessions will create a more uniform appearance with increased depth and definition as some pigment will naturally lighten during the healing process. If desired, a 3rd session can be added to further perfect results and provide additional coverage/density.
How long is each treatment?
Every treatment plan is unique, but generally, most Scalp Micropigmentation sessions take approximately two to four hours. The first appointment tends to take the longest because that’s the appointment where you build the overall structure and placement of the pigment. The duration of each visit varies depending on the amount of work being performed as future visits are to add detail, improve density and refine the final appearance.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
Your hairline is created according to your desires and our professional recommendations. Prior to designing we take measure of your face, existing hair pattern, age and the look you want to achieve. By working together, we can design a natural-looking hairline that complements your look and delivers realistic, long-lasting results.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
One of the biggest advantages of Scalp Micropigmentation is the longevity of the results. While each client's experience is unique, maintenance treatments are generally suggested every five to eight years. The length of time the pigment lasts will depend on factors like your skin type, daily routines, sun exposure, and lifestyle – all of which will influence when a touch-up may be needed to keep the pigment looking its best.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Proper aftercare is an important part of getting the best possible outcome. Do not wash your scalp, engage in strenuous exercise, touch the treated area or cut your hair for the first four days following treatment. These simple precautions help ensure healthy healing and better pigment retention. All clients are given a detailed aftercare guide, with full instructions for the recovery period.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
Most clients can return to work and their normal daily schedule within 24 hours of treatment. As SMP is a cosmetic and non-invasive treatment, recovery time is minimal and most people will experience very little disruption to their daily routine. Following the recommended aftercare protocol is critical for a successful recovery and long-lasting results.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
Immediately after treatment the pigmentation may be darker than the final healed result. This is a normal part of the healing process and will gradually soften over the next few days as the skin recovers. Some mild redness also occurs immediately after the procedure but usually resolves in a few days. After healing, the pigment is absorbed into the scalp and looks like natural hair follicles.
Does it hurt?
Most clients are surprised at how comfortable the treatment is. While some mild sensitivity may occur during the procedure, Scalp Micropigmentation is generally considered to be much more comfortable than traditional tattooing. We employ gentle techniques and a controlled application process to keep you relaxed and minimize discomfort throughout each session.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
The hairstyle you maintain following treatment is mainly determined by your level of hair loss and the goals of your Scalp Micropigmentation procedure. For clients with wide baldness, the closest shave of the hair yields the most uniform appearance. Since SMP is designed to simulate hair follicles rather than generate new hair growth, leaving the surrounding hair much longer can sometimes make the treatment area more noticeable. However, in those with thinning hair, the procedure can be used to enhance the appearance of fullness and this may allow the person to maintain additional length.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Absolutely. Scalp Micropigmentation is an excellent option for minimizing the appearance of scalp scars. We regularly treat transplant scars, surgical scars, and other types of scalp scarring by applying pigment with precision to blend the affected area with the surrounding skin for a more natural overall appearance.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
Preparing your hair before treatment helps create the most realistic cosmetic result. Clients seeking scar camouflage or increased density are typically encouraged to trim their hair to the shortest style they expect to maintain. Individuals with extensive hair loss often benefit from shaving the scalp before treatment to maximize the natural appearance of the finished result.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
Our practitioners will provide customized guidance to help you maintain your results after treatment. This may include recommendations for scalp care, grooming routines, and products that help preserve the appearance of your Scalp Micropigmentation while extending the time between maintenance appointments.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
No. After the treated area has fully healed, regular shaving is simply part of routine maintenance and will not interfere with the pigment. Many clients shave their heads frequently while continuing to enjoy realistic and consistent cosmetic results.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
No. Shaving your head does not remove or weaken the pigment placed during the procedure. Since the pigment remains beneath the surface of the skin, it continues to provide the appearance of closely shaved hair follicles regardless of how often you shave.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
The cost of Scalp Micropigmentation is customized because every client has unique treatment goals and different levels of hair loss. Pricing is determined by factors such as the size of the treatment area, the amount of scalp requiring coverage, and the density needed to create a natural-looking result. Most clients begin with two treatment sessions scheduled about one week apart, allowing the pigment to settle properly while building the foundation of the treatment. Depending on the desired outcome, a third session may be scheduled one to three months later to increase density or add additional detail. Scar camouflage procedures generally range from $800 to $1,000 per session. Treatments for Norwood stages 2 through 4 typically range from $2,400 to $3,400, while Norwood stages 5 through 7 generally cost between $3,400 and $4,200. Larger treatment plans involving extensive scalp enhancements, multiple sessions, or scar camouflage usually range from $4,200 to $5,200. Your final price will be based on your specific treatment plan and cosmetic goals.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Proper sun protection helps preserve the appearance of your Scalp Micropigmentation for years to come. Although SMP is designed to provide long-lasting results, frequent exposure to direct sunlight can gradually cause the pigment to fade. Applying sunscreen whenever your scalp is exposed and wearing a hat during extended outdoor activities can help maintain the appearance of your treatment while supporting long-term pigment retention.
How much does it cost?
Treatment costs are based on the complexity of the procedure and the amount of scalp that requires pigmentation. Most clients complete two treatment sessions, with the option of scheduling a third appointment to improve density and refine the final appearance. Scar camouflage treatments typically range from $800 to $1,000 per session. Clients with Norwood levels 2 through 4 generally invest between $2,400 and $3,400, while Norwood levels 5 through 7 typically range from $3,400 to $4,200. More comprehensive treatment plans usually fall between $4,200 and $5,200.
When are the payments due?
A $400 deposit is required to reserve your treatment appointments. Because appointment availability is limited, booking in advance is recommended. The remaining balance is generally split between the first and second treatment sessions. Financing options are also available to help make treatment more affordable and convenient.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!
Laura
I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with Zang SMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
