Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Brea (SMP)
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a detailed, non-surgical procedure in which plant-based pigments are deposited into the top layer of the scalp. This technique replicates the appearance of natural hair follicles and creates the look of fuller, thicker hair.
Brea residents often opt for SMP to achieve a clean, buzzed hairstyle. The procedure is also effective for improving thinning areas and correcting inconsistent results from previous hair transplants by adding realistic density and visual balance.
How many treatments do I need?
Clients in Brea should plan for at least two treatment sessions spaced about seven days apart. The initial pigment may fade slightly as the scalp heals, which makes a second session necessary to enhance color and detail. Some clients may benefit from a third touch-up session within one to three months for the most refined result.
How long is each treatment?
Appointments typically take two to four hours. The first session requires the most time because it involves designing the hairline and establishing foundational pigment. Follow-up sessions are generally faster, focusing on touch-ups and reinforcing pigment as needed.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
In Brea, hairline creation is a collaborative process. Your technician will work with you to consider your facial structure, preferences, and overall aesthetic goals, resulting in a hairline that looks natural and personalized.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
After finishing three SMP sessions, you can enjoy the results while following the aftercare plan. Brea clients benefit from a one-year warranty covering fading, with complimentary touch-ups provided if required. For most people, no further treatment is needed for several years.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
For most clients, maintenance touch-ups are not required for five to eight years. SMP is long-lasting, but environmental exposure such as sunlight and natural skin changes can slowly lighten the pigments over time.
What are the aftercare instructions?
After SMP, it is essential to follow aftercare instructions closely. Avoid water contact and activities that produce sweat for four days. Haircuts should be skipped initially, while hats and normal sleeping positions are acceptable. A detailed aftercare guide is provided in PDF format.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
Correct. SMP is non-invasive and requires no downtime. Most Brea clients resume work and daily routines immediately or soon after their sessions. Adhering to aftercare ensures optimal healing and pigment longevity.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
Immediately after treatment, pigment may appear darker and the scalp may show mild redness. These temporary effects fade within two to three days. Once healed, the pigment softens and looks like real hair follicles, virtually undetectable to others.
Does it hurt?
SMP is less painful than traditional tattooing. Our team ensures that your experience is comfortable and smooth from start to finish, making the procedure as stress-free as possible.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
During your consultation, our specialists will examine your scalp thoroughly and discuss your goals to develop a treatment plan that fits your lifestyle. Brea clients in the Norwood 6 or 7 range will likely need to maintain a clean-shaven appearance since SMP does not grow with hair, and surrounding hair growth could appear uneven.
For those seeking density enhancement, pigment can be applied to existing hair, which works well for thinning in the crown or frontal areas, allowing clients to keep some hair length while achieving a naturally fuller look.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes, SMP is effective for hiding scars from FUE or FUT hair transplant procedures as well as other types of scalp trauma. Brea clients often experience noticeable improvements in confidence after we carefully blend pigment into scarred areas to achieve a uniform and smooth scalp appearance.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
For density enhancement or scar concealment, clients should arrive with their hair at its normal length. Clients in the Norwood 6–7 classification are advised to shave their heads before treatment and maintain that shaved style afterward to ensure consistent results.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
During your consultation, our specialists provide detailed guidance for maintaining SMP results. Brea clients receive personalized aftercare instructions to maximize longevity. You can also schedule a complimentary follow-up consultation to develop a maintenance plan tailored to your specific treatment.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
There is no reason for concern. Shaving does not affect SMP pigments. We provide recommendations for shaving tools and scalp-care products that are safe for SMP, and Brea clients can refer to our product guide to help maintain results.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
No, daily shaving and grooming do not disturb SMP. Since the pigment is deposited into the upper layers of the skin, regular hair care and shaving are safe. Many Brea clients continue a shaved style without fading or irritation.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
Pricing varies based on the treatment zones and individual needs. Most clients complete two sessions spaced one week apart, with an optional third session within one to three months. Scar concealment typically costs $800 to $1,000 per session. Treatments for Norwood stages 2–4 usually range from $2,400 to $3,400, while stages 5–7 generally cost $3,400 to $4,200. Comprehensive treatments including scars typically range from $4,200 to $5,200.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Protecting your SMP from sun exposure is essential for maintaining pigment vibrancy. Clients should wear hats or apply sunscreen when outdoors. Brea residents who spend time outside should take extra care with UV protection to prevent premature fading.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary depending on the size of the treatment area and whether scar concealment is included. Scar treatments are $800–$1,000 per session. For general thinning or bald areas, Norwood 2–4 are $2,400–$3,400, stages 5–7 $3,400–$4,200, and full procedures with scars range from $4,200–$5,200.
When are the payments due?
A $400 deposit is required to secure the appointment. Sessions usually have an eight-week lead time, and the remaining balance is split between the first two sessions. Flexible financing options are also available for Brea clients.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!

I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
