Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Westlake Village, CA
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?
Scalp micropigmentation in Westlake Village is an advanced non surgical treatment designed to replicate the look of natural hair by carefully depositing organic, plant derived pigments into the scalp with exceptional detail. These pigments are blended and applied to match the natural appearance of hair follicles, producing a realistic and healthy looking result. For those who are fully bald, our practitioners are able to design a subtle and believable 5 o’clock shadow style that closely resembles short, shaved hair. If thinning hair or limited density from a hair transplant has become a concern, scalp micropigmentation in Westlake Village provides a consistent and long lasting way to restore the appearance of thickness and vitality to the scalp.
How many treatments do I need?
Most individuals require at least two SMP treatments, spaced roughly a week apart to allow the scalp sufficient time to respond to the pigment. Some of the initial pigment may shed during the healing process, making multiple sessions essential for achieving consistent and lasting results. Visible improvements are often noticeable after the first session, but the second session is important for enhancing density and creating a more complete and refined final appearance. In some cases, a third session may be scheduled between one and three months after the second session to perfect the finer details and polish the overall look.
How long is each treatment?
SMP appointments usually last from two to four hours, depending on the size of the treated area and the amount of pigment required. The first session is generally the longest, as it involves designing the hairline and applying the initial pigment. Subsequent sessions tend to be shorter, though the actual length varies depending on how the pigment has settled and the level of detail needed to complete the final result.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
Hairline design is a highly individualized process based on your facial structure, head shape, and natural symmetry. Practitioners collaborate with you to create a hairline that enhances your appearance while also considering your personal preferences. Many realistic hairline designs are available, and the final choice is made together to ensure it looks natural and complements your overall features.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
After completing all treatments and following the recommended aftercare, clients can fully enjoy the benefits of their SMP. Our one year guarantee covers fading during this period, and any touch ups required are performed at no cost. After this guarantee period, maintenance is usually only needed every few years to maintain clarity, definition, and vibrancy.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
Generally, touch ups are recommended between five and eight years after the original treatment. While SMP is designed to last for many years, normal aging and environmental factors can slowly cause pigment to fade. Periodic maintenance ensures that the hairline continues to appear natural, sharp, and well maintained over time.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Following your SMP session, careful attention to aftercare is essential to protect the newly applied pigment and ensure consistent results. For the first four days, it is important to avoid touching your scalp, washing the treated area, cutting or trimming your hair, and refraining from any physical activity that could interfere with healing. Wearing a hat is permitted immediately, and sleeping on your scalp does not affect the pigment. A complete aftercare guide in PDF form is provided to every client, giving clear, step by step instructions to navigate this healing period and maintain the best possible outcome.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
Because scalp micropigmentation is noninvasive and does not involve any surgical procedures, there is no downtime required. Clients are able to leave the clinic right after their session and can return to work the next day without difficulty. Following the four day aftercare routine carefully allows the pigment to settle properly and ensures the SMP results remain long lasting and visually striking.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
After completing your first session, it is expected for the pigment to appear more vivid or concentrated at first. Fresh pigment tends to look stronger before it has time to settle beneath the surface of the skin. Throughout the remainder of the day and into the next, the color begins to calm and blend more evenly, creating a smoother overall look. Temporary redness may accompany the treatment, especially for individuals with sensitive skin, but this reaction is usually short lived. Most clients see noticeable improvement within forty eight to seventy two hours, with redness fading to a minimal level. Once healing progresses, the final result appears natural and well integrated with the surrounding scalp.
Does it hurt?
Most individuals find scalp micropigmentation to be very tolerable, with sensations that are far milder than those experienced during tattooing. While pain thresholds differ, your comfort is always a priority. Our trained professionals use refined application techniques designed to reduce irritation and ensure the experience remains comfortable from start to finish.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
Your consultation allows us to determine the best approach based on your hair loss pattern. Clients with Norwood 6 or 7 hair loss typically achieve the most natural appearance by maintaining a shaved scalp. Because SMP does not produce actual hair growth or texture, allowing hair on the sides and back to grow longer can create visual contrast. Filler treatments are better suited for those with existing hair that allows for seamless blending.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes, SMP is an effective solution for minimizing the appearance of scars, including those from FUT and FUE hair transplants or past injuries. By strategically placing pigment, we reduce visibility and help the scar blend naturally with surrounding areas.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
For filler and scar correction treatments, clients are typically asked to trim their hair to the shortest length they plan to maintain. This ensures accuracy and consistency. For Norwood 6 or 7 cases, shaving the scalp completely before treatment is required and maintaining that look afterward supports the most realistic outcome.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
Our team provides personalized maintenance advice and product recommendations throughout your SMP journey. Detailed information and access to a free consultation are available through the link on our maintenance and product recommendation page.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
There is no need for concern when shaving regularly. The pigment is designed to remain stable through normal grooming routines. We also offer product suggestions that support long term appearance, which can be found on our product information page.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
Daily shaving and washing will not impact the pigment. Because it sits within the epidermis, it remains secure even with frequent grooming. Many clients continue shaving daily while maintaining natural looking results.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
The price of undergoing scalp micropigmentation depends on several individualized factors, including the amount of hair that has been lost, the size of the area on the scalp that requires coverage, and the degree of pigment saturation needed to produce the desired final look. Typically, the treatment schedule begins with two initial sessions separated by roughly one week, with a third session sometimes arranged between one and three months afterward to perfect the finer details and enhance the overall precision of the work. Scar treatment sessions are generally priced between eight hundred and one thousand dollars per session, while common hair loss cases in levels two to four often range from two thousand four hundred to three thousand four hundred dollars. More advanced hair loss situations, categorized in levels five through seven, are usually in the range of three thousand four hundred to four thousand two hundred dollars. For those who require a full series of three sessions including scar coverage and crown-area enhancement, the overall investment often falls between four thousand two hundred and five thousand two hundred dollars. Every individual quote is crafted specifically to your scalp condition, the extent of coverage needed, and your desired hair restoration results.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
SMP pigments are gradually affected by strong sunlight, which can reduce their intensity and impact the overall aesthetic of your scalp. To preserve your results, it is advisable to apply a sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection of high quality to exposed areas whenever you plan to spend time outdoors. Wearing a protective hat can further safeguard the treated areas. By consistently following these protective steps, you help ensure the pigments remain rich and natural-looking for many years following your procedure.
How much does it cost?
Scalp micropigmentation pricing varies according to the individual’s hair loss pattern, the size of the area to be treated, and the amount of pigment required. Treatment typically begins with two primary sessions spaced one week apart, and a third session is often scheduled one to three months later to refine and perfect the results. Scar treatment sessions generally cost between 800 and 1,000 dollars. Cases with hair loss levels two through four are usually in the range of 2,400 to 3,400 dollars, while advanced cases in levels five through seven often cost between 3,400 and 4,200 dollars. A comprehensive plan covering two to three sessions, scar blending, and top-of-scalp enhancement usually falls between 4,200 and 5,200 dollars.
When are the payments due?
To reserve your session, a deposit of 400 dollars is required. Appointment availability often involves an eight-week waiting period due to high demand. Payments for the remaining balance are usually divided between the first two treatment sessions to simplify the process. For clients seeking more flexibility, financing options are available to accommodate individual preferences.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!
Laura
I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
