Best Scalp Micropigmentation in West Hollywood, CA
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?
Scalp micro pigmentation West Hollywood is a non-surgical yet sophisticated method of improving the appearance of hair loss. This process involves the very precise injection of specific plant based pigments into the scalp to mimic the appearance of natural hair follicles. This creates the visual impression of a fuller, denser head of hair, but looks natural. For those who are completely bald, SMP can replicate the appearance of closely shaved hair, creating a realistic stubble effect. Scalp micropigmentation is a permanent and reliable solution for those looking to look younger and more confident, who may be suffering from thinning hair or who want to improve the results of a previous hair transplant.
How many treatments do I need?
For a complete result most people will need 2 or more SMP sessions. The period between appointments gives the scalp time to heal and allows you to observe how the pigment has settled. More sessions help create stronger density, better blending, and a more polished look. A third treatment is available to be scheduled when the scalp has completely healed, for clients desiring an extra level of refinement.
How long is each treatment?
SMP treatments usually last from two to four hours, but the actual time spent on treatment might vary. Often bigger treatment areas and higher density targets need more attention. The first session is usually the most work as it lays the groundwork for the entire treatment plan.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
A successful hairline is a true partnership between patient and practitioner. We discuss your objectives and analyze your natural features before designing. This process ensures that the finished hairline looks realistic, complements your appearance and reflects your personal preferences.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
After the recommended number of sessions have been completed most clients can enjoy their SMP with very little maintenance. We offer a one year guarantee and will touch-up any fading that may occur during that time. Thereafter maintenance visits are generally required only occasionally to keep the treatment sharp and natural looking.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
Most clients do not need maintenance for several years after the first treatment. Touch-up appointments are normally scheduled five to eight years later, depending on skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and personal preferences. SMP is intended to be long lasting however gradual fading can happen over time. Regular maintenance keeps the hairline sharp and the look consistent.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Good aftercare is an important part of the best possible results. Do not wash your scalp, exercise or get a haircut for the first four days after treatment. Do not touch the treated area. These precautions aid the healing process and maintain the retention of pigment. Wearing a hat is generally acceptable and normal sleeping positions will not affect the treatment. Clients receive a detailed aftercare guide detailing every step of the healing process.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
The majority of patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. Because SMP is nonsurgical, there is usually no recovery period required. Most people go back to work the next day, just using the recommended aftercare instructions for the first few days.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
After your initial SMP session the pigment may be darker and more pronounced than expected. This is a normal part of the process, as newly applied pigment can appear more pronounced until the skin begins to heal. In the next few hours and days the color settles gradually and a softer more natural appearance is created. You may also have redness around the treated area, which usually fades within two to three days. Healing times vary from person to person. As the scalp heals and the pigment settles it starts to blend in naturally with the surrounding area providing a realistic and balanced look.
Does it hurt?
Most clients have found the sensation of Scalp Micropigmentation to be very tolerable. It is commonly reported that SMP can be much more comfortable than a traditional tattoo. Every person has their own pain tolerance but our practitioners are cautious in their methods to ensure the experience is as comfortable as possible. Many clients report that any discomfort is mild and easily adjusted to as the session progresses.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
The answer will very much depend on what your current hair loss pattern is and what treatment approach is recommended during your consultation. Patients with more advanced hair loss, especially those who fall into the Norwood 6 or 7 classification, often get the most natural result when they shave their scalp very closely. Because SMP doesn’t actually create hair, but instead creates the illusion of hair follicles, allowing the hair on the sides and back to grow out significantly longer can make for a stark contrast. Density-based SMP treatments can be seamlessly blended with existing hair for clients who have a lot of natural coverage and thinning hair, providing more flexibility in terms of hairstyle options.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes. Scalp micropigmentation can be a great choice if you are looking for a viable option to reduce the appearance of scars on the scalp. SMP is also frequently used to cover scars from hair transplant procedures, surgeries, accidents or injuries and to deal with hair loss concerns. Pigment around and within the scarred area is carefully placed to help achieve a more uniform look that blends in naturally with the surrounding scalp.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
Preparation of the hair will depend on the type of treatment being done. The client is usually asked to come in with their hair as short as they want to keep it, with density enhancement and scar camouflage. That helps our practitioners to match the treatment better. Norwood 6 or 7 hair loss: A fully shaved head is usually advised before treatment and is often the preferred style afterwards.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
You will need to follow your practitioner’s guidance and use products that support the health of your scalp in order to maintain your SMP results. Our specialists will make personalized recommendations based on your skin type, lifestyle and treatment goals. We can discuss maintenance strategies during your consultation that will help keep your SMP looking great for years to come.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
Routine shaving should not be a problem once the scalp has healed fully. SMP is designed to withstand normal grooming and will not be harmed by regular shaving. Many clients continue to shave their heads as part of their regular routine and maintain excellent results.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
No. Once healed, the pigment will not be removed or weakened by daily shaving or regular washing. The impressions are held firmly within the skin so clients can continue their preferred grooming habits without affecting the overall look of their SMP.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
Scalp Micropigmentation costs vary from client to client because each case is different in terms of hair loss, scalp coverage and desired density. During the consultation we look at the condition of your scalp and decide how much work is needed to get the most natural and balanced result. Most treatment plans begin with two main sessions, spaced about one week apart to allow the pigment to set properly before more density is added. Sometimes a third session is recommended a month or three later to refine certain areas and complete the finishing touches. The majority of scar camouflage sessions cost $800 to $1,000. Most clients with moderate hair loss in Norwood classifications 2-4 generally spend between $2,400 and $3,400. The more advanced cases of hair loss, in the Norwood 5 through 7 classifications, usually fall in the $3,400 to $4,200 range. Complete treatments with three sessions, scar camouflage and large top-of-scalp coverage are often in the range of $4,200 to $5,200. Each quote is customized to suit your specific needs and desired outcome.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Sun exposure is one of the main contributors to gradual pigment fading over time. SMP is meant to be long lasting, but repeated exposure to intense ultraviolet rays can reduce the vibrancy of the treatment. To help protect your results, it’s best to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen whenever your scalp will be exposed to the sun for long periods of time. Wearing a hat may offer an extra layer of protection. By consistently protecting your scalp you can help your SMP look clear and natural for many years to come.
How much does it cost?
Each client has different degrees of hair loss, scalp coverage requirements and treatment goals. Therefore, SMP price varies. Treatment is usually two sessions about a week apart. Some clients choose to do a third session 1-3 months later to increase density and detail further. Scar camouflage services generally cost between $800 and $1,000 per session. Norwood levels 2 through 4 hair loss classifications typically range from $2,400 to $3,400, while more advanced Norwood 5 through 7 cases generally range from $3,400 to $4,200. Full treatment plans with multiple sessions, scar concealment, and top-of-scalp coverage are often in the range of $4,200 to $5,200.
When are the payments due?
A deposit of $400 is required to hold your treatment dates and secure your position in the schedule. As a result of the demand, appointments may be available with a booking period of roughly eight weeks in advance. Usually the balance is split between the first and second visits, which makes the payment process easier to manage. Additional flexibility may be available through financing options for qualified clients.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!
Laura
I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
