Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Thousand Oaks (SMP)

FAQs

What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a highly specialized, non-surgical technique that introduces organic, plant-derived pigment into the scalp’s dermal layer to replicate the look of real hair follicles. This creates the illusion of a fuller, thicker head of hair.

For individuals in Thousand Oaks experiencing baldness, we can create a natural 5 o’clock shadow effect. If you have thinning hair or need to boost density following a transplant, SMP may be the perfect solution to help you feel confident again.

How many treatments do I need?

Those from Thousand Oaks can expect a minimum of two SMP treatments, scheduled roughly one week apart. The first session initiates the base look, but due to natural skin processes, some pigment will fade. The second treatment enhances and solidifies the results. Sometimes, a third session may be recommended within 1–3 months to fine-tune and perfect the look.

How long is each treatment?

Typically, each treatment lasts between 2 to 4 hours. The first session usually takes longer because it involves building the hairline and placing the foundational pigments. Subsequent sessions are often shorter, depending on how much pigment was retained and how much refinement is needed.

Who decides on the construction of the hairline?

If you're from Thousand Oaks, we work with you to design a hairline that complements your natural facial features and personal style. Your preferences are taken seriously, and we ensure the final result looks authentic and feels right for you.

I've already had 3 treatments, now what?

Once you've completed your aftercare, you can sit back and fully enjoy the results of your SMP treatment. For our valued clients in Thousand Oaks, it's reassuring to know that we offer a full one-year guarantee. Should there be any pigment lightening during that first year, we’ll happily take care of touch-ups at no extra charge. Afterward, maintenance is rarely needed for several years.

A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?

Typically, clients from Thousand Oaks and other nearby areas may require a minor touch-up between 5 to 8 years post-treatment. While SMP provides long-lasting results, the gradual wear and tear on your skin can cause some softening of the pigments over time.

What are the aftercare instructions?

Adhering strictly to the 4-day aftercare guidelines is critical for preserving your SMP results. This includes no washing, no touching, no cutting hair, and no exercising during those first 4 days. You can wear a hat immediately post-procedure, and sleeping will not impact the pigments. Full aftercare instructions are available in our attached PDF.

So I don't need to take time off from work?

Not at all! Clients from Thousand Oaks often complete their treatment and resume work as soon as the following day. Scalp Micropigmentation is completely non-invasive, with no required downtime beyond following the basic aftercare protocol.

Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?

Right after the first treatment, the pigmentation can appear darker, but within a day or two, it will soften and blend naturally. Redness also tends to subside within 48–72 hours, depending on individual skin sensitivity.

Does it hurt?

Most clients describe SMP as far less painful than a traditional tattoo. Every person's experience is unique, but rest assured, we prioritize your comfort every step of the way.

Do I need to keep the shaved look?

We will conduct a personalized assessment during your consultation or web evaluation to determine your hair loss level and the best style suited for you. Clients from Thousand Oaks can trust us to recommend the most natural-looking SMP treatment plan based on their specific needs.

For those classified as Norwood 6–7, maintaining a shaved look is essential. Since SMP only simulates the appearance of hair follicles without producing real hair growth, as your real hair grows longer on the back and sides, a visible contrast will appear if the shaved look is not maintained.

Adding density to existing hairlines or crown areas is categorized as filler work. Filler SMP treatments blend seamlessly when the client still has sufficient natural hair coverage in the treated areas.

Do you also do scar concealment?

Yes, we specialize in scar concealment using SMP! Whether you have scars from a FUT or FUE hair transplant, or from an injury, our techniques can help restore a natural look. We have helped many clients from Thousand Oaks achieve incredible scar camouflage results.

Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?

If you are undergoing a filler treatment or scar concealment, it’s recommended that you come in with your hair trimmed to the shortest length you plan to maintain. For Norwood 6–7 classifications, shaving your entire head prior to treatment is necessary.

What do I do for optimal maintenance?

Our team will provide you with customized product recommendations to keep your SMP looking fresh. For more details or a complimentary consultation, simply click the link on this page.

Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?

You won’t need to worry! We'll recommend products that help maintain your treatment. If you're in Thousand Oaks, you can find these products by checking the link to our recommended product page.

Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?

Shaving won’t affect your SMP treatment. The pigment is placed within the epidermis layer, so you can continue shaving and washing your head daily. Many clients from Thousand Oaks follow the same routine without issue.

How much will the SMP treatment cost?

Costs depend on your specific hair loss level. The first two sessions are scheduled one week apart, with the possibility of a third session 1–3 months later. Scar concealment treatments typically range from $800–$1,000. For class 2–4 hair loss, prices range from $2,400–$3,400, and for class 5–7, prices range from $3,400–$4,200. Full top-of-scalp treatments including scar concealment generally cost between $4,200 and $5,200.

How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?

To protect your SMP from fading, always use sunscreen or wear a hat if you'll be outside for more than an hour. This is particularly important for clients in Thousand Oaks who enjoy spending time in the sun.

How much does it cost?

Pricing varies by individual needs. Scar concealment typically costs $800–$1,000, while treatments for class 2–4 hair loss are between $2,400–$3,400. For class 5–7 hair loss, treatment costs range from $3,400–$4,200. A complete top-of-scalp treatment with scar concealment ranges from $4,200–$5,200.

When are the payments due?

A $400 deposit is required to secure your booking. The typical wait time is 8 weeks. The balance is divided 50/50 across the first two treatments, and financing is available for Thousand Oaks clients as well.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!

I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
