Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Thousand Oaks, CA
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?
Hair loss can be a blow to one's confidence, but in Thousand Oaks, scalp micropigmentation offers a realistic, non-invasive way to tackle its visible signs. The treatment consists of placing high quality plant-based pigments into the scalp with precision to mimic natural hair follicles. The process creates the illusion of a fuller head of hair and can help define or restore the look of a hairline. Those who are completely bald can have a convincing closely cropped look, and those with thinning hair can have a fuller looking scalp. Many clients love SMP because it provides instant visual enhancement and permanent results.
How many treatments do I need?
SMP is usually done in phases, not all in one appointment. Most clients have 2 sessions so there’s plenty of time in between visits to heal and for the pigment to settle in. Extra sessions give a more complete and polished look. A third treatment may be recommended to perfect the finished result depending on the desired outcome and characteristics of your scalp.
How long is each treatment?
An average SMP appointment lasts two to four hours. The length of treatment will depend on the amount of work and detail being done. The first few visits tend to be longer to lay the foundation for the treatment, and subsequent visits are focused on building depth and overall consistency.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
Hairline design is customized for each client. When designing we take into account facial features, age, shape of the scalp and natural proportions. Client feedback is a key part of the process, helping to ensure that your final hairline will feel natural, comfortable and personal to you.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
Usually very little maintenance is required after your treatment plan is complete. Within the first year, any fading that is covered by our guarantee can be remedied with free touch-ups. Otherwise, maintenance appointments are usually only made when clients want to refresh the look of their SMP.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
SMP is not permanent, but it is intended to retain its appearance for many years. For most clients it’s only every 5-8 years that a maintenance session is needed. This will vary according to your skin condition and your daily environmental exposure. Touch-ups restore definition and maintain a natural look.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Aftercare makes sure the treatment heals properly and retains pigment well. For the first four days do not wash your scalp, cut your hair, exercise or touch the treated area often. Full aftercare instructions are given to clients so that they know all the steps needed to help a smooth healing process.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
Most cases require no time away from work. SMP is non-invasive, so clients can get back to their regular routines quickly. A lot of people feel ready to go back to work and normal activities the following day.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
However, the appearance of your scalp immediately after treatment is only the first step in the SMP process. The pigment can appear a little stronger the first day as it has not settled under the surface of the skin when freshly applied. While healing occurs the color will gradually become less harsh and assume more natural tones. Redness is also usually temporary, resolving in two or three days. As the scalp adjusts and heals, the pigment will blend more naturally into the treated area, helping to achieve a natural and realistic appearance.
Does it hurt?
Generally SMP is not very uncomfortable. No two clients experience the procedure in exactly the same way, but many describe the feeling as more of a mild scratching sensation rather than any significant pain. Comfort is vital to our team during every session and we use advanced application techniques to guarantee a comfortable treatment experience.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
The recommendations for hair length differ based on the type of SMP treatment being done. For individuals with advanced hair loss, a short, shaved appearance often results in the most convincing outcome. This way the pigment impressions get blended seamlessly with the remaining hair. For those clients who want density rather than complete scalp coverage, there may be more flexibility, as long as there is sufficient natural hair to blend the treatment satisfactorily.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes . A frequent reason clients seek SMP treatment is scar camouflage. Often we can camouflage scars to a great degree by mimicking the look of hair follicles in and around scar tissue. This is a common approach for FUT and FUE transplant scars, surgical scars and other types of scalp scarring.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
The recommendations for hair length vary according to the procedure. Shorter hair usually allows for greater precision in blending for density treatments and scar camouflage. Clients with significant hair loss may be recommended to shave their scalp prior to treatment for the most natural result.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
You need to take care of your scalp and follow your practitioner’s advice to maintain your results. We’ll guide you to the products that are right for you and give you maintenance suggestions to help your scalp health and the long term look of your SMP.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
Usually there is nothing to worry about. SMP looks great with a shaved look and shaving regularly will not harm the treatment. Many clients continue their normal grooming with no impact on their results.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
No. Once the scalp is fully healed, shaving will not affect the pigment or lessen its effectiveness. The treatment lies under the surface of the skin and still maintains a natural looking appearance.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
Scalp micropigmentation is very customized, so prices vary based on each case’s individual nuances. Important considerations are the degree of hair loss, the size of the treatment area and the amount of pigment density needed to create a natural appearance. Treatment typically begins with two treatments one week apart. These initial appointments prepare the work, and help the scalp to respond in between treatments. Sometimes a third appointment will be made for one to three months later to add density and make any final adjustments. Scar camouflage procedures typically cost $800 to $1,000 a session. The client with Norwood 2 to 4 hair loss range is generally between $2,400 to $3,400. Norwood 5 through 7 hair loss is more advanced and is generally $3,400 to $4,200. Full treatment plans with scar hiding, top-of-scalp restoration and three full sessions are usually in the $4,200 to $5,200 range. All treatment quotes are customized to the client’s restoration goals and treatment needs.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
The initial step in keeping your SMP results in good shape is to protect your scalp from too much sun. -Strong sunlight, particularly over extended periods, can lead to the gradual fading of the pigment. Apply sunscreen before going outdoors and wear protective headgear to help maintain the clarity of your pigment and support the long-term look of your treatment.
How much does it cost?
Pricing for SMP is custom to each individual because everyone’s degree of hair loss and coverage needs are different. Most treatment plans consist of two sessions with the third appointment offered to clients who want to add additional detail. Scar camouflage procedures generally cost $800 – $1,000 per session. For moderate hair loss, costs range from $2,400 to $3,400 and for advanced hair loss from $3,400 to $4,200. Full restoration plans generally run between $4,200 and $5,200.
When are the payments due?
A $400 deposit is required to hold treatment dates and begin the scheduling process. But demand means you might have to book your appointment several weeks in advance. The rest is generally divided between the first and second treatment sessions. Eligible clients may also be eligible for financing programs.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!
Laura
I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
