Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Southlake (SMP)
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?
SMP, or Scalp Micropigmentation, is a non-surgical and highly precise procedure where pigments are applied to the upper layer of the scalp to replicate the look of individual hair follicles. This creates the appearance of fuller hair and restores visual density in thinning areas. Residents of Southlake frequently choose SMP to achieve a sharp, buzzed hairstyle, improve thinning patches, or enhance previous hair transplant results with realistic density.
How many treatments do I need?
Clients in Southlake generally need at least two sessions spaced about a week apart. The first session may lighten slightly during healing, making the second session critical for reinforcing pigment and refining detail. A third session within one to three months may be recommended for the most polished and long-lasting results.
How long is each treatment?
SMP sessions typically last two to four hours. The first appointment is the longest because it involves designing a custom hairline and placing foundational pigment. Subsequent sessions are shorter, concentrating on pigment reinforcement and detailed refinement.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
Hairline design is a collaborative effort between the client and the SMP specialist. In Southlake, your facial structure, personal goals, and preferences are carefully considered to produce a natural, flattering, and individualized hairline.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
Once three sessions are complete, clients can enjoy their results while following aftercare instructions. Southlake clients are provided a one-year warranty covering touch-ups if fading occurs. Most clients will not require further treatments for several years.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
For most Southlake clients, SMP touch-ups are usually not necessary for five to eight years. While the treatment is intended to provide long-lasting results, sun exposure and aging can gradually reduce pigment intensity over time.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Following SMP, clients should carefully follow all aftercare instructions. Avoid water contact, refrain from high-sweat activities, and postpone haircuts for four days. Hats and normal sleeping positions are allowed. A detailed PDF guide is provided to ensure complete aftercare compliance.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
Correct. SMP is non-invasive and does not require downtime. Most Southlake clients are able to return to work or regular daily routines immediately. Following the aftercare instructions ensures proper healing and long-term results.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
Immediately following treatment, pigment may appear darker and mild redness may occur. These effects usually fade within two to three days. Once fully healed, the pigment appears natural and is difficult for others to detect.
Does it hurt?
Most clients find SMP significantly less painful than traditional tattooing. Our team prioritizes comfort, making each session smooth, relaxed, and stress-free.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
At your consultation, our team will review your scalp and discuss your goals to design a plan that fits your daily routine. Clients in Southlake with Norwood 6–7 hair loss generally need to maintain a clean-shaven style because SMP does not grow with surrounding hair and leaving hair longer may create uneven results.
Clients pursuing density enhancement can have pigment applied into existing hair, which works well for thinning areas in the crown or front. This allows some hair length to be preserved while creating the appearance of thicker, fuller hair.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes, SMP is highly effective for hiding scars from past FUE or FUT hair transplant procedures, as well as scars from other trauma. Many Southlake clients report significant confidence improvements once pigment is carefully applied to smooth and even out the scalp surface.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
If SMP is being used for density or scar coverage, hair can stay at normal length. Clients classified as Norwood 6–7 should shave prior to treatment and maintain this shaved style afterward to ensure uniform, natural results.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
During your consultation, we provide detailed guidance for maintaining SMP results. Southlake clients receive personalized aftercare instructions to help prolong pigment vibrancy, and a complimentary consultation can outline a complete maintenance plan tailored to their scalp and hair goals.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
Shaving the head does not interfere with SMP. It is part of normal grooming, and we provide guidance on proper shaving techniques and scalp-care products. Southlake clients may also refer to our product guide to help maintain pigment and scalp health.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
No, daily shaving does not disturb SMP results. Pigments are applied to the upper layers of the skin, so regular grooming and cleansing do not affect outcomes. Many Southlake clients maintain a shaved appearance without fading or irritation.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
Pricing depends on the area treated and each client’s needs. Most clients undergo two sessions spaced about a week apart, with an optional third session. Scar concealment ranges from $800–$1,000 per session. Norwood 2–4 treatments are $2,400–$3,400, stages 5–7 cost $3,400–$4,200, and full procedures including scars typically range from $4,200–$5,200.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Clients should protect SMP from sun exposure to preserve pigment vibrancy. Wearing hats or using high-quality sunscreen is recommended. Southlake residents spending long periods outdoors should take extra precautions to prevent fading caused by UV rays.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary based on the area treated and whether scars are addressed. Scar treatments are $800–$1,000 per session. Norwood 2–4 treatments are $2,400–$3,400, stages 5–7 are $3,400–$4,200, and full procedures including scars generally cost $4,200–$5,200.
When are the payments due?
A $400 deposit secures the appointment. Sessions typically have an eight-week lead time, with the remaining balance split between the first two sessions. Flexible financing is available for Southlake clients.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!

I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
