What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) in Orange (city)?
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical technique for hair restoration, where organic plant-based pigments are embedded into the dermal layer of the scalp. These pigments create the appearance of hair follicles, giving the impression of a full head of hair.
For those who are entirely bald, we provide a 5 o’clock shadow effect. If your hair is thinning or you need extra density after a hair transplant, SMP could be the right choice.
What are the benefits of SMP?
SMP offers a non-invasive approach to boost visual hair density, making it especially beneficial for people with alopecia areata or thinning hair. It gives the illusion of thicker hair by enhancing thinning areas. This technique, suitable for individuals with healthy, normal skin, provides a cosmetic alternative for enhancing hair appearance. It can also work alongside hair restoration surgery to disguise scars or areas of density loss.
How many treatments in Orange (city) do I need?
To ensure effective results, Scalp Micro Pigmentation is done in at least two sessions, with a one-week gap between them. This is because the skin often rejects some pigment following the initial treatment. Expect to see notable results after the first treatment, with a fuller appearance after the second. A possible third session in Orange (city), 1-3 months later, will be used to apply any finishing touches.
How long is each treatment?
Sessions are typically 2-4 hours long, depending on the complexity of the procedure. The first treatment is usually the longest because it includes creating the hairline and applying the foundational layer. Subsequent treatments tend to be shorter, although this may vary depending on the retention of previous treatments.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
The right hairline is based on a range of factors. We tailor the hairline to your unique features to achieve the most natural appearance. Personal preferences are also important, as various options can look natural for each person.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
After following the initial aftercare guidelines, you can sit back and enjoy the effects of your SMP treatment. We offer a one-year guarantee with our treatment plans, so any pigment lightening will be touched up at no additional cost. We’ll see you in a few years!
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
Touch-ups are generally recommended every 5-8 years. Although the procedure is permanent, normal skin wear and tear can result in the pigment lightening over time.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Following our 4-day post-treatment instructions is crucial to avoid excessive fading and contamination. This involves no touching, washing, cutting, or working out in the initial 4 days. It’s acceptable to wear a hat immediately after the treatment. The pigment will not smear or mark your pillows. For the full aftercare instructions, check the attached PDF.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
Scalp Micropigmentation is non-invasive and does not involve surgery, meaning there’s no downtime. Just follow the 4-day aftercare guidelines. Many clients have their treatment and then return home, going back to work the next day.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
The pigments will appear more intense immediately after the first treatment due to their fresh deposit. They will begin to soften and settle overnight. Redness will generally subside within 48-72 hours. The degree of redness depends on skin sensitivity, but clients usually experience a significant reduction in redness after 48 hours. After the initial settling phase, the treatment will look naturally perfect.
Does it hurt?
Most clients experience less pain with SMP than with a traditional tattoo. Individual pain tolerance can vary, but your health and safety are our top priorities. We will ensure the procedure is as smooth and comfortable as possible.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
During the consultation or web assessment, we will evaluate your hair loss. After determining your specific hair loss class, we will provide a treatment plan and recommend a style and look that is ideal for our SMP procedure.
Clients experiencing Norwood 6-7 hair loss should keep their hair shaved to maintain consistency with the SMP coverage on top. The difference between the SMP and natural hair will become more visible as the hair on the back and sides grows. This procedure provides a permanent cosmetic solution by using pigmentation to mimic hair follicles, which will not grow or produce a three-dimensional effect.
Filler treatments are designed to increase the density of the hairline or crown. They are most effective for those who have some existing hair for the SMP to blend with.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Definitely! Scalp Micropigmentation is not just for male pattern baldness; it can also conceal scars from past surgeries or injuries. It works well for hiding both FUE and FUT transplant scars.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
For effective filler treatments and scar concealment, we usually ask clients to arrive with their hair trimmed to the shortest length they plan to maintain unless they request a different length. Clients with class 6 or 7 hair loss need to shave their heads before treatment and keep them shaved.

Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
The treatment is in the epidermis layer, so daily shaving and washing won’t affect it. Many of our clients with this procedure shave daily.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Prolonged direct sunlight can lead to pigment fading and damage to your treatment and scalp. Protect your scalp with sunscreen or a hat if you’re exposed to the sun for more than an hour.
How much does it cost?
Pricing for SMP is dependent on the individual case, including the level of hair loss and the work needed. The first two treatments are typically scheduled one week apart, with a possible third treatment 1-3 months later. The price for scar concealment treatments ranges from $800 to $1000. For hair loss classes 2-4, it costs $2400 to $3400. For classes 5-7, the cost is $3400 to $4200. Scar concealment on the top of the scalp ranges from $4200 to $5200 for 2-3 treatments.
When are the payments due?
A $400 deposit is required to secure your appointment dates. You will typically wait 8 weeks for an appointment. Payments are divided 50/50 between the first two treatments. We have financing options available.
