Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Northridge, CA
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?
Scalp micropigmentation in Northridge delivers a refined and modern non-surgical method of hair restoration by placing specialized organic, plant-based pigment deposits into the dermal layer of the scalp with great precision. These carefully placed pigments are intended to mirror the look of genuine hair follicles, producing the appearance of a naturally full and healthy head of hair. For individuals who have no remaining hair at all, we can create an incredibly realistic 5 o’clock shadow effect that resembles freshly shaved growth. If your hair has begun thinning or if you are unhappy with the outcome of a previous hair transplant and want enhanced density, scalp micropigmentation in Northridge provides a dependable and long lasting option for achieving the look of a thicker and more youthful scalp.
How many treatments do I need?
Scalp Micropigmentation is usually completed over a minimum of two sessions that are spaced approximately one week apart. The skin, which is the body’s largest and most reactive organ, may initially push out a portion of the pigment, making multiple sessions necessary. Many clients begin noticing clear improvements right after their first visit, but the second session plays an essential role in building fullness and achieving a more complete appearance. In some cases, a third session may be scheduled one to three months after the second appointment to sharpen, refine and finalize the overall finish by adding any needed detail work.
How long is each treatment?
Most SMP sessions require between two and four hours to complete, depending on the area being addressed and the level of density we are trying to achieve. The first session is typically the most time consuming because it involves creating the hairline design and laying down the foundational layer of pigment. Follow up sessions tend to be shorter, although the exact timing can vary depending on how the previous pigment healed and the amount of detail necessary to perfect the overall look.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
Your hairline is crafted through a thoughtful blend of factors such as your facial structure, bone shape and natural proportions. We tailor the hairline to ensure that it looks fully authentic, and your personal preferences are always part of the discussion. There are numerous natural looking styles that complement different individuals, so the final design is created through a collaborative process that aims to achieve the most flattering and realistic outcome.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
After completing the full treatment sequence and following the recommended aftercare, you can enjoy the benefits of your new SMP results. Our treatment plans include a one year guarantee that covers any loss of pigment that may occur during this period. If a touch up is needed within the year, we will provide it at no additional charge. After the guarantee period, most clients only need maintenance every few years to keep their SMP looking fresh and vibrant.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
Maintenance touch ups are generally required anywhere between five and eight years following the original treatment. Scalp Micropigmentation is considered long lasting, but natural aging and normal skin changes can gradually lighten the pigment over time. Routine touch ups ensure that your results remain crisp, natural and visually consistent for many years beyond the initial procedure.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Proper aftercare is essential for preserving the pigments and supporting ideal healing. During the first four days, avoid touching, washing, cutting your hair or engaging in physical activity that may cause sweating, as these can interfere with the settling of pigment. You may wear a hat right away without causing any harm, and resting your head while sleeping will not smear your results. A comprehensive PDF with detailed aftercare directions is provided to guide you through this early stage of healing.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
Because SMP is a non surgical and non invasive cosmetic procedure, it requires no downtime at all. Clients return home immediately after their session and are able to resume work the following day. As long as you follow the four day aftercare guidelines, you can expect smooth healing and the best possible outcome.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
Right after your first session, the pigments can look a bit more pronounced because they have just been applied and naturally appear richer in color during the initial period. Over the next several hours and by the following day, you will see them gradually soften as they begin to settle into the skin and transition toward a more natural tone. Any redness that develops from the procedure usually fades within forty eight to seventy two hours, although the level of redness depends on each person’s individual skin sensitivity. For most clients, the redness diminishes quickly and becomes hardly noticeable after a couple of days. Once this early healing phase is complete, the treated areas blend smoothly with your existing scalp and create an appearance that looks realistic and consistent with natural hair density.
Does it hurt?
Many clients describe SMP as significantly less painful than receiving a traditional tattoo, and most tolerate the process extremely well. While personal pain thresholds differ, we are committed to maintaining a comfortable experience throughout your entire session. Our practitioners use a careful and controlled technique designed to minimize irritation, and we check in frequently to ensure you remain relaxed. Any sensations you do feel are usually mild and manageable, allowing the procedure to be completed with ease.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
During your consultation, whether we meet face to face or connect through a detailed web assessment, we carefully examine your hair loss pattern to determine the treatment style that will offer you the most natural and effective outcome. Clients who fall under the Norwood 6 or 7 category generally need to maintain a closely shaved appearance, since the SMP coverage on the top of the scalp would visually conflict with longer hair growing on the sides and back. Because this is a permanent cosmetic procedure that recreates the look of individual hair follicles through pigment, it is important to understand that the impressions do not grow or produce any natural three dimensional texture. Filler treatments, which focus on boosting density in areas such as the hairline or crown, work best for individuals who still retain enough natural hair for the pigment to blend with seamlessly.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes, scalp micropigmentation can be used to conceal scars just as effectively as it can address typical male pattern baldness. This technique allows us to camouflage marks left behind from older surgeries or accidental injuries, including visible FUE and FUT transplant scars. By adding carefully placed pigment impressions throughout the treated area, we create a smooth and balanced appearance that blends naturally with the rest of your scalp.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
For filler sessions or any type of scar camouflage work, clients are generally encouraged to arrive with their hair trimmed to the shortest length they intend to maintain. This helps us determine the most seamless blend possible unless your practitioner gives you different instructions. However, individuals with Norwood 6 or 7 hair loss must shave their entire head before starting treatment, and keeping this length afterward ensures that the SMP looks uniform and consistent across all areas.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
Throughout your SMP experience, our team will offer personalized recommendations on the best products to help maintain your results. We also provide access to a complimentary consultation for those who want more detailed guidance, and you can find all of this information through the link provided on our product recommendation page.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
Shaving your head on a regular basis will not interfere with or harm the SMP results. We will guide you in choosing the right products so that your pigments remain vibrant, and additional information is outlined on our recommended products page to help you feel confident in your routine.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
You can shave and wash your head daily without any concern about damaging the pigment. Since the impressions are embedded in the epidermis layer of the scalp, they remain stable even with frequent grooming. Many of our clients shave every single day and continue to maintain natural and long lasting SMP results.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
The overall cost of scalp micropigmentation is determined by several individual elements, including the severity of your hair loss, the precise regions of the scalp that require attention, and the amount of density and coverage needed to create a balanced and natural appearance. Most treatment plans begin with two foundational sessions that are scheduled one week apart, with a potential third session offered one to three months later to refine the final result and ensure every detail is polished. Scar concealment typically ranges from 800 to 1,000 dollars per session, depending on the size and type of scarring. Clients who fall within hair loss categories 2 through 4 generally see pricing between 2,400 and 3,400 dollars, while individuals in more advanced categories 5 through 7 usually fall within the 3,400 to 4,200 dollar range. A comprehensive three-session plan that addresses the top of the scalp and includes scar camouflage often totals between 4,200 and 5,200 dollars. All pricing is determined according to your specific needs, goals, and treatment expectations.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Exposure to strong sunlight can slowly break down SMP pigments and may also affect the overall condition of the scalp, which can lead to a gradual decline in the sharpness of your results. To maintain the treatment for as long as possible, it is recommended to apply a reliable broad-spectrum sunscreen to the exposed areas of your scalp or wear a hat whenever you expect to be outside for long periods. Consistent protection from ultraviolet rays plays an important role in preserving the longevity and vibrancy of the pigments.
How much does it cost?
The cost of SMP is determined individually, based on the specific degree of hair loss and the amount of detailed work required to achieve natural-looking coverage. The standard process begins with two appointments scheduled one week apart, and many clients return for an optional third session one to three months after the second to refine and enhance the finished appearance. Scar camouflage treatments usually range from 800 to 1,000 dollars per session. Clients with class 2 to 4 hair loss typically fall between 2,400 and 3,400 dollars, while those with more advanced class 5 to 7 hair loss can expect prices from 3,400 to 4,200 dollars. A full treatment plan that addresses the top of the scalp along with scar concealment across two or three sessions generally totals between 4,200 and 5,200 dollars.
When are the payments due?
A booking deposit of 400 dollars is required to secure your appointment dates, and most clients experience an eight-week waiting period before an opening becomes available. The remaining balance is usually divided between the first two sessions to make the process convenient. For those who prefer alternative options, financing plans are available to help spread out the cost.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!
Laura
I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
