What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) in Mission Viejo?
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical method for hair restoration that involves applying organic plant-based pigments into the scalp’s dermal layer. These pigments mimic hair follicles, giving the effect of a full head of hair.
For those who are completely bald, we deliver the 5 o’clock shadow look. If your hair is thinning or you’re unhappy with your hair transplant results, SMP may offer the density you need.
What are the benefits of SMP?
SMP offers a non-surgical approach to boost hair density, particularly beneficial for those with alopecia areata or thinning hair. It creates an illusion of thicker, fuller hair. This method is appropriate for individuals with healthy, normal skin seeking a cosmetic solution to enhance their hair’s appearance. It can also support hair restoration surgery by camouflaging scars or areas with decreased hair density.
How many treatments in Mission Viejo do I need?
At least two treatments are necessary for Scalp Micro Pigmentation, each one week apart. This is because the skin, being the largest organ, might reject some pigment after the first session. The first treatment will show significant results, with a more complete appearance following the second treatment. A third treatment in Mission Viejo might be necessary 1-3 months after the second for final refinements.
How long is each treatment?
Each session lasts 2 to 4 hours, based on the complexity of the task. The first treatment is usually the longest due to the need to design the hairline and apply the foundational layer. Subsequent sessions are usually shorter, though the duration can vary depending on how well the previous layers have held.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
Determining the right hairline involves considering various factors. We customize the hairline to suit your specific features, aiming for the most natural look. Your preferences are also factored in, as several options can appear natural for different individuals.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
After following the provided aftercare instructions, you can sit back and enjoy your SMP treatment. We offer a one-year guarantee with our treatment plans, so any pigment lightening will be covered by a free touch-up. We’ll see you again in a few years!
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
Clients often require touch-ups between 5 and 8 years. The procedure is permanent, but over time, normal wear and tear on the skin can cause the pigment to fade.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Adhering to our 4-day post-treatment instructions is critical for preventing fading and contamination. Essentially, avoid touching, washing, cutting, and working out for the first 4 days. Wearing a hat immediately after treatment is perfectly fine. The pigment will not smear or leave marks on your pillows. Refer to the attached PDF for detailed aftercare instructions.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
As a non-invasive and nonsurgical treatment, Scalp Micropigmentation requires no downtime. Just adhere to the 4-day aftercare instructions. Clients often complete their treatment and go home the same day, with many resuming work the following day.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
Immediately following the first treatment, the pigments will look bolder due to their new deposit. They will gradually soften and settle overnight. The redness should clear up within 48-72 hours. How much redness you experience depends on your skin's sensitivity, but most clients will notice a substantial reduction in redness after 48 hours. Once the initial settling is complete, your treatment will look fully natural.
Does it hurt?
The pain from SMP is generally milder than that of a traditional tattoo for most clients. While individual pain tolerance varies, we prioritize your safety and well-being. Our practitioners will work to make the experience as smooth as possible.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
During your consultation or web assessment, we will assess your hair loss. Once we understand your hair loss category, we will provide a treatment plan and suggest the best style and look for the SMP procedure.
Clients classified as Norwood 6-7 should keep their hair shaved to ensure the SMP coverage on the top of the head remains consistent. The growth of hair on the sides and back will make the difference between the SMP and natural hair more apparent. The procedure is a permanent cosmetic treatment that simulates hair follicles with pigmentation, which will not grow or have a three-dimensional effect.
Adding density to a hairline or crown through a filler treatment is suitable for individuals who still have some natural hair in the area to blend with the SMP.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes, Scalp Micropigmentation is not only for male pattern baldness; it can also mask scars from previous surgeries or injuries. It is effective for concealing both FUE and FUT transplant scars.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
For our filler treatments or scar concealment services, we generally ask clients to arrive with their hair cut to the shortest length they intend to keep unless they request otherwise. If you have class 6 or 7 hair loss, ensure you shave your head before coming in for the treatment and maintain it at that length.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
For maintaining your treatment, we’ll suggest appropriate products. Check out the link to our recommended products page.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
The treatment is applied to the epidermis layer, so daily shaving and washing won’t damage it. Most clients who undergo this procedure shave every day.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Exposure to direct sunlight can diminish the pigments and harm your treatment and scalp over time. Apply sunscreen or wear a hat if you’ll be in the sun for more than an hour.
How much does it cost?
The price of SMP is based on individual needs, such as the scale of hair loss and the work involved. Typically, the first two treatments are spaced a week apart, with a potential follow-up treatment 1-3 months later. Scar concealment costs between $800 and $1000 per treatment. Class 2-4 hair loss is priced from $2400 to $3400, and class 5-7 is $3400 to $4200. For scar concealment on the top of the scalp, the cost ranges from $4200 to $5200 for 2-3 treatments.
When are the payments due?
A $400 booking deposit is needed to hold your treatment dates. The typical wait time for an appointment is 8 weeks. We split the payments evenly between the first two treatments. We offer financing solutions too.
