What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) in Garden Grove?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical hair restoration technique involving the placement of organic plant-based pigments into the dermal layer of the scalp. These pigments simulate hair follicles to create the appearance of a full head of hair.

If you’re fully bald, we offer a 5 o’clock shadow appearance. If you have thinning hair or want more density post-transplant, SMP might be the solution you need.

What are the benefits of SMP?

SMP is a non-invasive solution to enhance visual hair density, particularly for those with alopecia areata or thinning hair. It creates the appearance of fuller hair by improving existing thinning areas. Best suited for those with healthy, normal skin, this method offers a cosmetic solution for restoring hair’s appearance. It can also assist with hair restoration surgery by masking scars or thinning areas.

How many treatments in Garden Grove do I need?

Scalp Micro Pigmentation typically requires a minimum of two sessions, with each session separated by one week. This is to account for the skin's tendency to reject some pigment after the first treatment. The first treatment will deliver significant results, with a more complete appearance following the second. A third treatment in Garden Grove may be needed 1-3 months later for final enhancements.

How long is each treatment?

Each session lasts 2 to 4 hours, depending on the amount of work required. The initial treatment is usually the longest, involving the creation of the hairline and the foundational layer. Later treatments are generally shorter, but this can vary based on the retention of previous treatments.

Who decides on the construction of the hairline?

Factors influencing the suitable hairline include your unique characteristics. We customize the hairline to match your traits for a natural look. Your personal preferences are also taken into consideration, as different options can look natural for various individuals.

I've already had 3 treatments, now what?

Once you follow the initial aftercare steps, you can relax and enjoy your SMP results. Our treatment plans come with a one-year guarantee, so if there is any lightening of the pigments, we’ll provide a free touch-up. We’ll catch up with you in a few years!

A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?

Most clients will need touch-ups within 5-8 years. The procedure is permanent, but natural wear and tear on the skin can cause the pigment to gradually lighten.

What are the aftercare instructions?

It’s vital to stick to our 4-day post-treatment instructions to prevent both fading and contamination. This means avoiding touching, washing, cutting, and exercising for the first 4 days. After your treatment, you can wear a hat right away. The pigment won’t smudge or get on your pillows. For detailed aftercare instructions, refer to the attached PDF.

So I don't need to take time off from work?

This non-invasive, nonsurgical Scalp Micropigmentation procedure requires no downtime. You just need to follow the 4-day aftercare routine. Most clients receive their treatment and head home on the same day, often resuming work the following day.

Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?

After the first treatment, the pigments will look bold as they are newly applied. Expect them to soften and settle down by the following morning. The redness will fade away in 48-72 hours. The amount of redness you experience depends on skin sensitivity, but most clients will notice a significant reduction in redness after 48 hours. Once the settling period is complete, the treatment will appear completely natural.

Does it hurt?

For many clients, SMP pain is less severe than that of a traditional tattoo. While pain tolerance is different for each person, we prioritize your health and safety. Our practitioners are dedicated to making the process as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Do I need to keep the shaved look?

We will review your hair loss either during a consultation or through a web assessment. Once we have assessed your hair loss type, we will create a treatment plan, recommend the most suitable style, and look for our SMP procedure.

Clients with Norwood 6-7 hair loss need to maintain a shaved head to match the SMP coverage on top. As the hair on the sides and back grows, the contrast between the SMP treatment and natural hair will become more evident. As a permanent cosmetic treatment, pigmentation is used to replicate hair follicles, with no growth or creation of a 3D texture.

Adding density to an existing hairline or crown is a filler treatment. Candidates with some remaining hair in the area are most suitable for this procedure.

Do you also do scar concealment?

Yes, Scalp Micropigmentation is suitable for more than just male pattern baldness. It can also effectively cover scars from prior surgeries or injuries, including scars from FUE and FUT transplants.

Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?

If you're undergoing a filler treatment or scar concealment, we typically ask that clients come with their hair at the shortest length they intend to keep, unless otherwise requested. If you have class 6 or 7 hair loss, make sure to shave your head before the treatment and maintain it at that length.

What do I do for optimal maintenance?

To maintain your treatment, we’ll provide product suggestions. Please check the link for our list of recommended products.

Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?

Daily shaving and washing are completely safe for the treatment, as it is located in the epidermis layer. Most of our clients who have this procedure shave every day.

How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?

Direct sunlight can weaken the pigments and damage your treatment and scalp over time. Make sure to use sunscreen or a hat if you will be in the sun for longer than an hour.

How much does it cost?

SMP costs vary based on the scale of hair loss and the amount of work needed. The first two treatments are generally spaced one week apart, and a third treatment may be considered 1-3 months after the second. Scar concealment treatments cost between $800 and $1000 per session. For class 2-4 hair loss, the price is $2400 to $3400. For class 5-7 hair loss, it is $3400 to $4200. Scar concealment for the top of the scalp is $4200 to $5200 for 2-3 treatments.

When are the payments due?

To confirm your treatment schedule, a $400 booking deposit is necessary. Appointments usually have an 8-week wait time. We split the payment equally for the first two treatments. You can take advantage of our financing options.
