What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) in Fullerton?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical hair restoration technique that involves placing organic plant-based pigment deposits into the scalp’s dermal layer. These pigments mimic hair follicles, looking for a full head of hair.

For those who are completely bald, we offer the 5 o’clock shadow appearance. If your hair is thinning or you need more density after a hair transplant, SMP could be the solution you’re looking for.

What are the benefits of SMP?

SMP provides a non-invasive option to boost visual hair density, making it particularly useful for those with alopecia areata or thinning hair. It increases hair density, giving the impression of thicker hair. This technique is ideal for individuals with healthy, normal skin who seek a cosmetic option to restore their hair’s appearance. It can also complement hair restoration surgery by helping to conceal scars or areas of lost hair density.

How many treatments in Fullerton do I need?

Scalp Micro Pigmentation typically requires at least two sessions, one week apart. This is because we need to work with your skin, which may reject some pigment after the first treatment. Significant results should be visible after the first treatment, with a more complete appearance after the second. A third treatment in Fullerton may be needed 1-3 months later to add final touches.

How long is each treatment?

Each session lasts 2-4 hours, depending on the complexity of the work. The first treatment usually takes the longest since it involves creating the hairline and laying the foundation. Subsequent sessions are generally shorter but may vary based on how well the previous treatments have held.

Who decides on the construction of the hairline?

Several factors influence the choice of a suitable hairline. We customize the hairline to match your unique features to achieve the most natural and fitting result. We also consider your personal preferences, as various options can look natural for each individual.

I've already had 3 treatments, now what?

After following the initial aftercare guidelines, you can relax and enjoy your SMP treatment. We provide a one-year guarantee with our treatment plans, so if there is any lightening of the pigments, we'll provide a touch-up at no extra cost. After that, we’ll see you in a few years!

A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?

We generally recommend touch-ups for our clients every 5-8 years. Although the procedure is permanent, normal wear and tear on the skin can cause it to lighten over time.

What are the aftercare instructions?

Following our 4-day post-treatment instructions is essential to avoid excessive fading and contamination. In summary, avoid touching, washing, cutting, or exercising for the first 4 days. You can wear a hat right after each treatment. There’s no need to worry about the pigment smudging or staining your pillows while you sleep. Please refer to the attached PDF for complete aftercare instructions.

So I don't need to take time off from work?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-invasive and nonsurgical procedure with no associated downtime. You only need to adhere to the 4-day aftercare. Many clients receive treatment and return home the same day, resuming work the next day.

Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?

Right after the first treatment, the pigments will appear bold due to their fresh application. Overnight, they will begin to soften and settle down. The redness will fade within 48-72 hours. The degree of redness depends on skin sensitivity, but most clients will see a significant reduction in redness 48 hours after the first treatment. Once the initial settling period is complete, your treatment will appear entirely natural.

Does it hurt?

For most clients, SMP pain is less intense compared to a traditional tattoo. Pain tolerance varies for each person, but your health and safety are our top priorities. Our practitioners will make sure the process is as comfortable as possible.

Do I need to keep the shaved look?

During the consultation or web assessment, we will evaluate your hair loss. Based on this assessment, we will create a treatment plan and recommend a style and look best suited for our SMP procedure.

Clients with Norwood 6-7 hair loss should maintain a shaved look to match the coverage created on top of the head with SMP. As the hair on the back and sides continues to grow, the contrast between your natural hair and the SMP treatment will become more noticeable. This is a permanent cosmetic procedure that uses pigmentation to mimic hair follicles, which will not grow or produce a 3D texture.

Adding density to an existing hairline or the crown is a filler treatment. Ideal candidates for this treatment are those who still have some hair in the area to blend the SMP with.

Do you also do scar concealment?

Yes, Scalp Micropigmentation isn’t limited to male pattern baldness; it can also cover scars from past surgeries or injuries. SMP is effective in concealing both FUE and FUT transplant scars.

Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?

For filler treatments or scar concealment, we usually ask clients to come in with their hair cut to the shortest length they plan to maintain unless they request otherwise. If you have class 6 or 7 hair loss, please shave your head before your treatment and keep it shaved.

What do I do for optimal maintenance?

We will recommend products to help maintain your treatment. Please visit the link to our product recommendations page.

Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?

You can shave and wash your head daily without affecting the treatment, as it is applied to the epidermis layer. Most of our clients who undergo this procedure shave every day.

How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?

Excessive exposure to direct sunlight can weaken the pigments and damage your treatment and scalp over time. Always wear sunscreen or a hat if you’ll be in direct sunlight for more than an hour.

How much does it cost?

The cost of SMP varies based on individual needs, including the extent of hair loss and the amount of work required. Typically, the first two treatments are spaced one week apart, with a potential third treatment 1-3 months later. Scar concealment treatments cost between $800 and $1000 each. For class 2-4 hair loss, the cost ranges from $2400 to $3400. Class 5-7 hair loss costs between $3400 and $4200. Scar concealment on the top of the scalp ranges from $4200 to $5200 for 2-3 treatments.

When are the payments due?

A $400 deposit is required to reserve your treatment dates. Appointments typically have an 8-week wait time. Payments are divided equally between the first two treatments. Financing options are also available.
