FAQs

What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?

Scalp Micropigmentation, commonly referred to as SMP, is a non-surgical, meticulously detailed procedure in which specialized pigments are carefully applied to the upper layer of the scalp to replicate the appearance of natural hair follicles. This technique creates the look of fuller hair and restores visual density to thinning areas, resulting in a natural and aesthetically pleasing effect.

Residents of Flower Mound often select SMP to achieve a sharp, buzzed style or to enhance the visual density of thinning hair. It can also complement previous hair transplant procedures, providing a realistic illusion of thicker hair.

How many treatments do I need?

Clients in Flower Mound typically require at least two sessions, spaced approximately seven days apart. The initial session may experience some fading as the scalp heals, making a second session crucial to reinforce pigment and detail. In certain cases, a third touch-up session within one to three months may be recommended to achieve the most refined and long-lasting results.

How long is each treatment?

SMP sessions generally last between two and four hours. The first appointment is the longest because it involves designing a personalized hairline and laying down the foundational pigment. Subsequent sessions tend to be shorter and focus primarily on enhancing detail, reinforcing pigment, and achieving precise, natural results.

Who decides on the construction of the hairline?

In Flower Mound, hairline design is a collaborative effort between the client and their SMP technician. Your facial structure, personal goals, and stylistic preferences are all carefully considered to produce a hairline that appears natural, flattering, and perfectly suited to you.

I've already had 3 treatments, now what?

After completing three SMP sessions, clients can enjoy the results while following recommended aftercare procedures. Flower Mound residents benefit from a one-year warranty that covers complimentary touch-ups if fading occurs. For most clients, no further treatments are required for several years.

A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?

For the majority of clients in Flower Mound, SMP touch-ups are generally not necessary for a period of five to eight years. Although SMP is designed to provide long-term results, factors such as sun exposure and natural skin aging can gradually diminish pigment intensity over time.

What are the aftercare instructions?

Following SMP, it is essential to follow all aftercare recommendations closely. This includes avoiding water contact, limiting activities that induce heavy sweating, and postponing haircuts for four days. Wearing hats and maintaining normal sleep positions are permitted. Clients also receive a detailed PDF guide outlining complete aftercare procedures.

So I don't need to take time off from work?

Correct. SMP is a non-invasive procedure that does not require downtime. Most residents of Flower Mound are able to return to work or their usual daily activities immediately or shortly after the session. Following the aftercare instructions ensures proper healing and the best possible long-term results.

Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?

Immediately following treatment, pigment may appear slightly darker and mild redness may be present. These effects usually subside within two to three days. Once fully healed, the pigment blends naturally with the scalp, making it very difficult for others to detect that a procedure was performed.

Does it hurt?

Most clients report that SMP is far less uncomfortable than traditional tattoos. Our team prioritizes client comfort, ensuring that every session is smooth, easy, and as stress-free as possible.

Do I need to keep the shaved look?

During your consultation, we will examine your scalp and discuss your specific goals in order to develop a plan that fits smoothly into your daily routine. Clients in Flower Mound with Norwood 6–7 hair loss usually need to maintain a clean-shaven appearance because SMP does not grow with existing hair and leaving surrounding hair longer could create an inconsistent look.

Clients seeking density enhancement can have pigment applied into existing hair, which works well for thinning areas in the crown or front. This approach allows them to keep some hair length while improving overall fullness and creating a natural visual density.

Do you also do scar concealment?

Yes, SMP is highly effective for covering scars from previous FUE or FUT hair transplants, as well as scars from other types of scalp trauma. Many Flower Mound clients notice a significant improvement in confidence after pigment is carefully applied to create a smooth, uniform scalp surface.

Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?

If SMP is performed for density enhancement or scar camouflage, hair should remain at its normal length. Clients with Norwood 6–7 classifications should shave prior to treatment and continue to maintain this shaved style afterward to ensure consistent and natural results.

What do I do for optimal maintenance?

During your consultation, we provide detailed guidance for maintaining SMP results. Flower Mound clients receive personalized aftercare instructions designed to maximize pigment longevity, and a complimentary consultation can provide a thorough maintenance plan tailored to each individual’s needs.

Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?

Shaving the head does not interfere with SMP in any way. It is a normal aspect of scalp grooming, and we provide advice on appropriate shaving tools and scalp-care products. Flower Mound clients may also consult our product guide to ensure their scalp remains in optimal condition while preserving pigment integrity.

Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?

No, daily shaving does not disturb the results of SMP. Because pigments are placed in the upper layers of the skin, routine grooming, cleansing, and shaving do not affect the outcome. Many Flower Mound clients maintain a shaved style without experiencing fading or irritation.

How much will the SMP treatment cost?

Pricing varies depending on the areas being treated and each client’s specific needs. Most clients complete two sessions spaced about a week apart, with an optional third session for refinement. Scar concealment typically costs between $800 and $1,000 per session. Treatments for Norwood 2–4 hair loss are $2,400–$3,400, stages 5–7 are $3,400–$4,200, and full procedures including scars generally range from $4,200–$5,200.

How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?

Clients should take steps to protect SMP from sun exposure to maintain pigment vibrancy over time. Wearing hats or applying high-quality sunscreen is strongly recommended. Flower Mound residents who spend extended periods outdoors should be especially diligent to prevent fading caused by UV rays.

How much does it cost?

Costs depend on the treatment area and whether scars are included. Scar treatments range from $800–$1,000 per session. General thinning or bald areas are $2,400–$3,400 for Norwood 2–4, $3,400–$4,200 for stages 5–7, and full procedures that include scars generally cost $4,200–$5,200.

When are the payments due?

A deposit of $400 secures your appointment. Sessions are usually scheduled with an eight-week lead time, and the remaining balance is divided between the first two sessions. Flexible financing options are available for clients in Flower Mound.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!

I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
