Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!

I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!

Zang SMP - Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Dana Point, Los Angeles

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Zang SMP for SMP treatment?

Zang SMP stands out for its unmatched expertise and track record of successful treatments. We focus on delivering exceptional, customized results, helping you regain confidence and a natural appearance that suits your lifestyle.

What is Scalp Micropigmentation with Zang SMP?

Our Scalp Micropigmentation procedure uses organic, plant-based pigments to mimic hair follicles, creating the look of a fuller head of hair. This non-invasive treatment is ideal for those experiencing hair thinning or complete baldness and can also complement hair transplant results for added density.

How many treatments do I need?

A typical SMP treatment at Zang SMP involves two sessions, spaced one week apart, to allow for optimal pigment retention. The first session offers visible results, while the second session completes the process. Occasionally, a third session may be necessary for any final adjustments within 1 to 3 months.

How long is each treatment?

At Zang SMP, treatment sessions typically last between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the intricacy of the work. The first session is generally longer as we take time to craft your hairline and apply the initial layer of pigment. Follow-up treatments are usually quicker, though the duration may depend on how well the pigment from the first session has set.

Who decides on the construction of the hairline?

Creating your hairline is a collaborative process at Zang SMP. We take into account your face shape and personal preferences to ensure a result that looks both natural and tailored to your needs. Our focus is on designing a hairline that enhances your features while achieving the exact look you want.

I've already had 3 treatments, now what?

Once you’ve completed your treatments and followed the aftercare guidelines, you can enjoy the full effects of your Scalp Micropigmentation. Zang SMP offers a one-year guarantee, and if you experience any fading, a touch-up will be provided at no extra charge. After that, touch-ups are typically required every few years.

A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?

Touch-ups are generally needed every 5 to 8 years. Although SMP is considered a permanent solution, natural skin regeneration can cause the pigments to lighten over time, so maintenance is necessary to maintain the look.

What are the aftercare instructions?

To prevent excessive fading and potential infection, it’s important to follow the aftercare guidelines for the first 4 days. During this period, avoid touching, washing, or cutting the treated area, and refrain from physical activities that cause sweating. Hats can be worn immediately after treatment. Rest assured, the pigment won’t smear if you sleep on it. For complete instructions, refer to the attached PDF.

So I don't need to take time off from work?

Since Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-invasive procedure, there’s no need for time off from work. After completing the 4-day aftercare regimen, many of our clients are able to return to work the following day without any issues.

Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?

After the first treatment, the pigments may appear darker, but they will soften and settle within the next 24 hours. Any redness from the procedure will fade within 2-3 days. The level of redness will vary based on skin sensitivity, but clients generally see a noticeable reduction in redness shortly after the procedure. Once healed, the result will look completely natural.

Does it hurt?

Pain experienced during Scalp Micropigmentation is typically less than what you would feel with a traditional tattoo. While pain tolerance varies from person to person, the Zang SMP team ensures your comfort throughout the treatment process, making it as easy as possible for you.

Do I need to keep the shaved look?

Our consultation process will help us determine the right approach for your hair restoration. If you have Norwood 6-7 hair loss, maintaining a shaved head is essential for the best results with SMP. The pigment we apply during the treatment will provide full coverage, but as your natural hair continues to grow, there will be a visible contrast between your hair and the SMP treatment. Since SMP replicates hair follicles but doesn’t grow like real hair, the shaved look ensures a uniform, seamless appearance. For clients looking to add density to their existing hairline or crown, a filler treatment is often the best option, as it works well for clients with some remaining natural hair to blend the SMP into.

Do you also do scar concealment?

Definitely! Scalp Micropigmentation is effective for more than just hair loss. We also specialize in concealing scars, whether from hair transplant surgeries (FUE or FUT) or other injuries. SMP can blend the scar tissue with your scalp, restoring a natural, even appearance.

Do I need to cut my hair before your SMP treatment?

If you're receiving a filler treatment or scar concealment, we typically ask that clients come in with their hair trimmed to the shortest length they plan to maintain, unless we discuss otherwise. Clients with Class 6 or 7 hair loss must shave their heads before the treatment and continue to keep it shaved afterward to maintain the best results.

What do I do for optimal maintenance?

For the best possible maintenance of your SMP, we will suggest products that work well for your treatment. Please take a look at our product recommendation page for helpful suggestions on keeping your treatment looking fresh.

Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?

Shaving your head will not affect the SMP treatment. The pigment is placed in the epidermal layer, so it won’t be disturbed by shaving or washing. In fact, most clients who undergo SMP continue to shave daily with no issues.

How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?

To keep your SMP looking great, you’ll need to protect it from direct sunlight. Use sunscreen or wear a hat whenever you're out in the sun for more than an hour to shield the pigments from fading and to protect your scalp.

How much does it cost?

The cost of SMP varies based on the extent of your hair loss and the treatments required. The first two treatments are typically scheduled one week apart, with a potential third session 1-3 months following the second. Scar concealment treatments are priced between $800 and $1,000 per session. For Class 2-4 hair loss, treatments typically range from $2,400 to $3,400, and for Class 5-7 hair loss, the cost is between $3,400 and $4,200. A combined treatment for the scalp and scar concealment costs between $4,200 and $5,200 for two to three sessions.

When are the payments due?

To reserve your treatment, a $400 deposit is required. With an average wait time of 8 weeks, we split the remaining balance into two payments, one before each of the first two treatments. Financing options are available for those who prefer it.

How do I get started?

Start by calling 310-425-4975 or emailing info@zangsmp.com to schedule your free consultation. For clients who are unable to visit in person, we can arrange a remote consultation through Facetime or Skype. Simply send us photos of your scalp (top-down view) and scar, and we’ll guide you from there.

How can SMP help with male and female pattern baldness?

SMP offers a cosmetic treatment to address male and female pattern baldness. The process involves applying pigment to the scalp to replicate the appearance of shaved hair follicles. This non-invasive technique provides a natural, permanent solution to hair loss, offering an alternative to hair transplant surgery.

Can SMP address thinning hair and provide a denser look?

Yes, SMP can significantly enhance the appearance of thinning hair. By applying pigments in areas of thinning, the treatment creates a visual contrast that makes the hair look thicker and denser. This procedure is perfect for both men and women looking to improve the overall fullness of their hair and mask thinning spots.

What solutions does your SMP offer for scar camouflage and botched SMP repairs?

SMP is highly effective for concealing scars from previous surgeries, injuries, or hair transplants. It can also correct previous, poorly executed SMP treatments. By adding pigments to scarred or uneven areas, SMP helps blend these imperfections with the natural hair, offering a smoother and more cohesive scalp appearance.

Is SMP a viable option for alopecia?

SMP is a great solution for people with alopecia, especially those with alopecia areata or totalis. It can cover bald patches by simulating hair follicles, creating a uniform, shaved look across the scalp. This technique provides a lasting solution to reduce the visibility of bald spots and achieve a natural, fuller appearance.
