FAQs

What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?

Scalp Micropigmentation, also known as SMP, is a non-surgical, highly precise procedure where pigments are carefully implanted into the upper layer of the scalp to simulate individual hair follicles. This treatment creates the visual impression of thicker, fuller hair and restores the appearance of density in thinning regions. Many Plano residents choose SMP to achieve a sharp, buzzed style, improve thinning areas, or complement prior hair transplant procedures by producing a realistic hair density effect.

How many treatments do I need?

Clients living in Plano generally need a minimum of two sessions spaced about a week apart. The first session may lighten slightly as the scalp heals, so a second session is essential to reinforce pigment and refine details. Some clients may benefit from an additional third session within one to three months to achieve optimal results.

How long is each treatment?

SMP appointments typically range from two to four hours in length. The initial session takes the longest due to designing a personalized hairline and establishing foundational pigment. Subsequent sessions are shorter, focusing on pigment reinforcement and detail enhancement to ensure natural results.

Who decides on the construction of the hairline?

In Plano, designing the hairline is a joint process between the client and the SMP technician. Factors such as your facial shape, personal style, and desired results are all incorporated to create a hairline that looks natural and flattering.

I've already had 3 treatments, now what?

After completing three SMP treatments, clients enjoy their new look while adhering to aftercare instructions. Residents of Plano receive a one-year warranty covering touch-ups in case of fading. For most clients, no further treatments are required for multiple years.

A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?

For most Plano clients, touch-ups are generally not necessary for five to eight years. Although SMP is designed for durability, natural aging and sun exposure may gradually reduce pigment over time.

What are the aftercare instructions?

Proper aftercare is crucial. Clients should avoid direct water exposure, refrain from intense sweating, and delay haircuts for four days. Wearing hats and sleeping normally is allowed. A comprehensive PDF guide is provided to outline all necessary aftercare steps.

So I don't need to take time off from work?

Correct. SMP is minimally invasive and requires no recovery time. Most Plano residents return to work or daily routines immediately. Following aftercare recommendations supports optimal healing and long-lasting results.

Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?

Right after treatment, the pigment may appear darker and mild redness can occur. These effects usually fade within two to three days. Once healed, the pigment blends with the scalp, making it very difficult for anyone to detect.

Does it hurt?

SMP is generally far less painful than traditional tattooing. Our team ensures every session prioritizes client comfort, making the process smooth, relaxed, and stress-free.

Do I need to keep the shaved look?

At your consultation, our team will evaluate your scalp and discuss your personal goals to design a plan that fits seamlessly into your routine. Clients in Plano with Norwood 6–7 hair loss are generally advised to maintain a clean-shaven appearance since SMP does not grow naturally with hair and surrounding longer hair could appear uneven.

For clients interested in density enhancement, pigment can be applied to existing hair. This method works well for thinning in the crown or frontal areas, allowing them to retain some hair length while improving the overall perception of fullness and density.

Do you also do scar concealment?

Yes, SMP is very effective in concealing scars from previous FUE or FUT hair transplants, as well as scars caused by trauma. Plano clients frequently report increased confidence and satisfaction after pigment is meticulously applied to create a smooth, uniform scalp surface.

Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?

When SMP is performed for density or scar camouflage, hair can remain at its normal length. Clients classified as Norwood 6–7 should shave their hair prior to treatment and continue with this shaved style afterward to maintain consistent and natural-looking results.

What do I do for optimal maintenance?

During your consultation, we provide extensive guidance for maintaining SMP results. Plano clients receive specific aftercare instructions to maximize longevity, and a complimentary consultation can provide a comprehensive maintenance plan tailored to individual needs.

Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?

Shaving does not interfere with SMP. It is part of normal scalp grooming, and our team offers advice on proper shaving tools and scalp-care products. Plano clients can also follow our product guide to maintain optimal pigment and scalp health.

Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?

No, routine shaving will not affect SMP. Pigments are placed in the upper layers of the skin, so daily grooming or cleansing does not compromise results. Many clients in Plano maintain a shaved style without experiencing fading or irritation.

How much will the SMP treatment cost?

Pricing varies based on the treatment area and client requirements. Most clients complete two sessions spaced one week apart, with an optional third session for additional detail. Scar concealment is priced between $800 and $1,000 per session. Norwood 2–4 treatments range from $2,400–$3,400, stages 5–7 are $3,400–$4,200, and full procedures including scars generally cost $4,200–$5,200.

How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?

Clients should protect SMP from sun exposure to maintain color vibrancy. Hats or high-quality sunscreen are recommended, and Plano residents spending long periods outdoors should take extra care to prevent fading from UV rays.

How much does it cost?

Costs vary based on the area treated and whether scar concealment is required. Scar treatment sessions cost $800–$1,000 each. General thinning or bald areas range from $2,400–$3,400 for Norwood 2–4, $3,400–$4,200 for stages 5–7, and full procedures including scars generally cost $4,200–$5,200.

When are the payments due?

A deposit of $400 secures your appointment. Sessions are typically scheduled with an eight-week lead time, and the remaining balance is divided between the first two sessions. Flexible financing is available for Plano clients.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!

I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
