Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Brentwood (SMP)
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?
Scalp Micropigmentation Brentwood is an innovative non-surgical hair restoration treatment aimed at improving the appearance of hair loss with natural results. Specialized pigments are then applied in a precise manner all over the scalp during the procedure to mimic the appearance of closely shaved hair follicles. This results in the visual effect of fuller hair and reduces the appearance of thinning areas. For those with total hair loss, SMP can give the look of a freshly shaven head, blending in seamlessly with any existing features. It is also commonly performed in conjunction with hair transplant procedures to improve overall hair density and enhance cosmetic results.
How many treatments do I need?
Most people do Scalp Micropigmentation in two treatment sessions. They space each session a few weeks apart to allow the skin to heal properly and to see how the pigment settles after the first application. Some fading may occur in the course of the healing process and additional sessions help to enhance the appearance of the treatment while improving the consistency and realism. If the client wants a higher density or more detail they can book a third appointment to further improve the finished result.
How long is each treatment?
The length of treatment depends on the needs of the individual client, but most appointments are between two and four hours long. The first session is usually the longest and establishes the overall pattern and design for the procedure. The length of the appointment may vary depending on the treatment plan, as additional visits are used after the initial visit to increase density, perfect details and make any necessary adjustments.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
Creating the hairline is a personalized process that combines your input with the experience of our practitioners. Before designing a hairline that is natural and complements your overall look, we take into consideration your facial proportions, natural hair growth pattern and cosmetic goals. All recommendations are made with an eye towards long-term realism and customer satisfaction.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
One of Scalp Micropigmentation’s biggest benefits is that it is permanent. Results vary from person to person, but maintenance treatments are usually required every five to eight years to keep the pigmentation looking its best. The pigment can last a long time and keep its appearance, but it is good to have a touch-up when necessary depending on the condition of the skin, outdoor exposure and individual lifestyle habits.
What are the aftercare instructions?
It’s important to follow the correct aftercare protocol for best healing and pigment retention. It is recommended not to wash the scalp for approx. 4 days after the appointment. Avoid strenuous exercise, unnecessary touching of the treated area and getting a haircut. These simple steps help the healing process and help you to get the best results over the long term. Each client is also provided with a full aftercare guide with further instructions.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that requires no lengthy recovery time. Usually clients are able to leave their appointment and go back to work the next day with no disruption. To have the best experience healing and best long term retention of pigment, please be sure to follow the recommended aftercare instructions for the first four days.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
The pigment will usually come out darker immediately after your treatment than it will once the healing process is complete, which is normal. As your skin heals, this temporary appearance will soften over time, allowing the pigment to blend more naturally into your scalp. You may also have a slight redness for a brief period, but this usually fades in a couple of days. The treatment offers a realistic appearance that resembles natural hair follicles very closely after full healing.
Does it hurt?
The procedure is usually much more comfortable than clients expect it to be. While some sections of the scalp might be a bit more sensitive, the overall sensation is generally not as intense as getting a regular tattoo. Our practitioners are careful to work through each session using controlled techniques to minimize discomfort and ensure clients stay relaxed during treatment.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
Based on the treatment plan developed for your individual needs, the decision will be made to keep your hair shaved. Clients with more diffuse hair loss on the top of the scalp generally get the most realistic look by keeping their hair very short, shaved. Since Scalp Micropigmentation is the illusion of hair and not new hair growth, longer hair around the treated area can sometimes make the difference more obvious. For clients with mild to moderate thinning, if the treatment goal is to enhance the illusion of density, they may be able to go slightly longer in length.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes. Scalp Micropigmentation is commonly used to reduce the appearance of scars in addition to treating hair loss. Our practitioners frequently camouflage hair transplant scars, surgical scars, and scars resulting from injuries by carefully placing pigment that blends naturally with the surrounding scalp for a smoother, more uniform appearance.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
Hair preparation is an important part of achieving the most natural-looking outcome. Clients receiving density enhancement or scar camouflage are generally advised to trim their hair to the shortest length they plan to maintain after treatment. For individuals with more significant hair loss, shaving the scalp before the procedure often provides the most realistic final result.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
We provide every client with personalized maintenance recommendations based on their treatment and lifestyle. These suggestions may include scalp care products, grooming practices, and other helpful tips that can preserve the appearance of your Scalp Micropigmentation and extend the life of your results.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
No. Once your scalp has healed completely, shaving your head on a regular basis is perfectly safe and will not damage the pigment. Many of our clients continue shaving routinely while maintaining natural-looking results for years.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
Not at all. Regular shaving does not affect the quality of your treatment or cause the pigment to disappear. Because the pigment is implanted within the skin, it continues to create the realistic appearance of natural hair follicles even with frequent shaving.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
Scalp Micropigmentation pricing is personalized because no two treatment plans are exactly alike. The total cost depends on factors such as the degree of hair loss, the size of the scalp area being treated, and the amount of density required to create realistic cosmetic results. Most treatment plans begin with two appointments scheduled approximately one week apart, allowing the pigment to heal and establish a natural-looking foundation. A third session may be scheduled one to three months later for clients who would like additional density or refinement. Scar camouflage treatments typically range from $800 to $1,000 per session. Clients with Norwood level 2 through 4 hair loss generally invest between $2,400 and $3,400, while Norwood level 5 through 7 cases usually range from $3,400 to $4,200. Extensive scalp enhancements, scar camouflage, and multi-session treatment plans generally range from $4,200 to $5,200. Your final treatment estimate will be based on your specific condition and cosmetic goals.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Limiting prolonged sun exposure is one of the best ways to preserve your Scalp Micropigmentation. While the treatment is designed to last for years, ultraviolet exposure can gradually reduce the appearance of the pigment over time. Regularly applying sunscreen and wearing a hat during extended outdoor activities can help protect the treatment while supporting long-term pigment retention.
How much does it cost?
The cost of treatment depends on the scope of the procedure and the amount of scalp that needs to be treated. Most clients complete two treatment sessions, with the option of scheduling a third appointment if additional density or detail is desired. Scar camouflage treatments generally range from $800 to $1,000 per session. Hair loss classified as Norwood levels 2 through 4 typically costs between $2,400 and $3,400, while Norwood levels 5 through 7 generally range from $3,400 to $4,200. More extensive treatment plans usually fall between $4,200 and $5,200.
When are the payments due?
A $400 deposit is required to secure your treatment dates. Because appointment availability is limited, advance scheduling is often recommended. The remaining balance is typically divided between your first and second treatment sessions. Financing options are available for clients who would like additional flexibility with payment.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!
Laura
I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with Zang SMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
