Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Bellflower (SMP)
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedure that involves depositing organic, plant-sourced pigment into the scalp’s surface layer. The result is a natural illusion of short, shaved hair or thicker density in thinning areas.
For many in Bellflower, SMP provides a modern and stylish answer to baldness. It’s also a popular solution among those seeking to improve the density of thinning hair or fill in patchy transplant results.
How many treatments do I need?
Residents of Bellflower considering SMP should plan for at least two treatments spaced roughly one week apart. This allows for healing and accounts for the slight fading that naturally occurs. A third session may be advised within one to three months to fully complete the transformation.
How long is each treatment?
Each SMP session usually lasts from 2 to 4 hours. The initial session is often the most detailed, focusing on outlining and filling the new hairline. Additional sessions are generally faster, depending on how well your skin retains the pigment.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
Hairline design for our Bellflower clients is a personalized collaboration. We work directly with you to shape a look that suits your facial structure and aesthetic preferences. Our goal is to deliver results that feel authentic and naturally blend with your appearance.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
Once your three treatments are complete, you can move forward confidently with your revitalized look. Be diligent with your aftercare, and know that if you're based in Bellflower, you’re covered by our one-year guarantee—free touch-ups are available for any early fading. Most clients enjoy lasting results with minimal upkeep for years to come.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
For our Bellflower clients, "a few years" generally translates to 5 to 8 years of wear before a touch-up is needed. Although SMP offers extended longevity, exposure to sunlight and gradual changes in your skin’s texture over time can lead to slow fading of the pigment.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Following aftercare instructions is crucial to maintaining optimal results. In the first four days after your treatment, it’s important to avoid wetting the scalp, intense sweating, or getting a haircut. Hats are allowed right away, and sleeping as usual is totally fine. We’ll also send you a detailed aftercare PDF to guide you step by step.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
That’s right—there’s no recovery downtime with SMP. Since it’s non-surgical and minimally invasive, most Bellflower clients return to work or daily routines right after their appointment or the next day. Just follow the aftercare plan to keep everything healing smoothly.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
Post-procedure, your scalp may look darker than expected and a bit red, but that’s temporary. These effects typically resolve within 48 to 72 hours. As your skin recovers, the color softens to blend naturally with your existing hair and skin tone.
Does it hurt?
Compared to tattooing, SMP is significantly more tolerable. Most clients describe it as mild discomfort at most. We’re dedicated to keeping your experience comfortable and will tailor the pace and approach to suit your needs during the session.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
In your consultation, whether in Bellflower or online, we’ll assess your pattern of hair loss and develop a custom SMP approach. If you're at a Norwood 6 or 7 level, a shaved look is typically necessary because the pigment stays consistent while surrounding hair continues growing. Not shaving in these cases may create a visual imbalance.
If you have more hair and are seeking density, we offer SMP blending techniques that integrate seamlessly with existing strands—perfect for enhancing fullness around the hairline or crown.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes, we do offer scar camouflage. Whether your scars are from a FUT or FUE transplant or resulted from an accident, SMP is a proven way to reduce their visibility. We’ve helped numerous Bellflower clients restore confidence by blending pigments into scarred areas, creating a smoother, more even scalp appearance.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
If you're scheduled for a density enhancement or scar blending session, come in with your hair trimmed to the length you normally wear. However, clients with advanced hair loss, such as Norwood 6 or 7, should shave their heads before treatment and maintain that shaved appearance moving forward for best results.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
You’ll be given a custom aftercare routine based on your unique needs and goals. We also invite Bellflower residents to book a no-cost consultation using the link provided. This lets us design a personalized maintenance strategy to help you maintain your SMP results over time.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
No concerns here—shaving regularly won’t damage your SMP. In fact, many of our Bellflower clients continue to shave daily without any problems. To help support your treatment, we provide recommendations for scalp-safe razors and products in our downloadable product guide.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
Shaving will not negatively impact your SMP. Since the pigment resides just beneath the skin, everyday grooming like shaving and washing is entirely safe. Bellflower clients have no trouble keeping a clean-shaven look after treatment and enjoy long-lasting results without complications.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
Your exact cost will depend on the treatment area and the severity of hair loss or scarring. In most cases, clients receive two main sessions spaced a week apart and return for an optional third session within 1 to 3 months. Scar treatments are typically $800–$1,000 per session. SMP for Norwood stages 2–4 is generally between $2,400 and $3,400, and stages 5–7 are priced at $3,400 to $4,200. Full treatments that include scar coverage usually range from $4,200 to $5,200.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
To keep your SMP from fading, sun protection is essential. Always apply SPF or wear a hat when exposed to direct sunlight. Those living in sunny areas like Bellflower should be especially mindful of UV rays and take preventive steps to ensure their results last longer.
How much does it cost?
Cost is determined by the extent of the treatment and whether scar coverage is included. Sessions for scar concealment cost between $800 and $1,000 each. Hair loss at stages 2–4 typically ranges from $2,400 to $3,400, while stages 5–7 are usually $3,400 to $4,200. If both SMP and scar blending are needed, full procedures fall between $4,200 and $5,200.
When are the payments due?
We ask for a $400 deposit to hold your appointment slot. Current wait times are around 8 weeks. The balance is then paid in two parts across your first and second treatment sessions. Bellflower clients can also explore our flexible financing options to make payment more manageable.
How do I get started?
To begin, give us a call at 310-425-4975 or send an email to info@zangsmp.com. If you're in the Bellflower area, you can also send us clear photos of your scalp or scarred area, and we’ll arrange a virtual consultation via Skype, FaceTime, or a regular phone call to evaluate your needs.
Hear from our customers

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!
Laura

I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
