Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Bakersfield, CA
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP?
Scalp micropigmentation in Bakersfield offers a precise and well developed non-surgical method of restoring the look of natural hair by placing organic, plant-based pigment deposits into the dermal layer of the scalp. These deposits are strategically arranged to imitate the presence of real hair follicles, helping create the look of a full and healthy head of hair. For individuals with complete baldness, our practitioners can simulate an authentic 5 o’clock shadow that captures the appearance of closely cropped hair. Whether you seek additional density due to thinning or feel dissatisfied with the outcome of a previous transplant, scalp micropigmentation in Bakersfield serves as an effective and lasting solution for building the appearance of a fuller and more youthful scalp.
How many treatments do I need?
Most SMP procedures consist of at least two sessions spaced approximately one week apart to allow the skin to properly absorb the pigment. Since the skin may reject a small portion of pigment after the first application, layering through multiple visits ensures a stronger and more complete result. Clients often notice early improvement, yet the second session is essential for achieving greater density and finishing the overall look. If needed, a third session may be recommended one to three months later to fine tune the final appearance.
How long is each treatment?
Each session typically lasts between two and four hours, depending on the extent of the area being treated and the density required for the final look. The first appointment generally takes the most time because it involves mapping out the hairline and creating the primary pigment base. Later sessions usually move more quickly, although the exact duration depends on how the pigment settled from the previous visit and the amount of detail needed to finish the look.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
The hairline design is determined through a careful assessment of your natural facial proportions and the overall structure of your head. We tailor the design to appear as natural as possible while incorporating your stylistic preferences. Since there are many realistic hairline options, the final choice is made through a joint evaluation to ensure it flatters your appearance.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
After all sessions have been completed and the appropriate aftercare steps followed, you can enjoy the final results of your SMP. Our one year guarantee protects against pigment fading that may occur during that time, and any required touch ups within the year are included. Beyond that timeframe, most individuals only require maintenance every several years to preserve the vibrancy and definition of their hairline.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
Maintenance is most commonly needed between five and eight years after the original treatment. While SMP has long lasting results, natural skin aging and day to day wear can gradually reduce pigment intensity. Occasional maintenance keeps your hairline looking refined and naturally consistent.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Following proper aftercare is essential to protect your SMP. For the first four days, avoid washing, touching or trimming your hair and refrain from exercise that may cause sweating. You may wear a hat immediately with no risk of smudging, and normal sleep will not affect the pigment. A detailed PDF is provided to ensure you have clear guidance throughout the healing process.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
No time away from work is required since SMP is a non surgical and non invasive treatment. Clients are able to go home after their session and get back to work the next day. Observing the four day aftercare instructions is the only step needed to promote optimal healing.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
Following your initial session, the scalp pigments might appear a little bolder because freshly applied impressions naturally start off with more intensity. As you move through the next several hours and into the next day, the pigments gradually soften as they settle beneath the surface, creating a natural and balanced appearance. Any redness caused by the procedure typically disappears within forty eight to seventy two hours, though the degree of redness will vary from one individual to another based on personal skin sensitivity. Most clients notice that it fades rather quickly. Once the pigments have settled completely, the final effect blends fluently with your scalp and carries a very natural appearance.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe the experience of scalp micropigmentation as extremely tolerable and much less painful than a typical tattoo. Everyone experiences sensations differently, but we always put your comfort at the forefront. Our team performs the procedure with a gentle and methodical approach that helps reduce discomfort, ensuring that the overall session remains smooth, calm, and easy to manage.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
During your consultation, whether done in our clinic or through an online assessment, we examine the pattern and severity of your hair loss to determine the treatment style that will yield the most realistic and flattering appearance. Clients experiencing Norwood 6 or 7 hair loss usually need to maintain a shaved look, because SMP placed across the top of the scalp may contrast uncomfortably with the natural growth occurring on the sides and back. This is a permanent cosmetic procedure designed to imitate hair follicles with pigment, and these impressions do not grow or create any natural three dimensional texture. Filler treatments, which add density to existing areas of hair, work best for clients who still have enough natural hair for the SMP to blend in an authentic and seamless way.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes, scalp micropigmentation is also performed to help reduce the appearance of scars in addition to addressing common patterns of hair loss. We can effectively conceal marks left behind from various injuries or surgeries, including visible FUE and FUT transplant scars. By placing pigment impressions carefully, we create a more blended and uniform look across the entire scalp.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
For clients receiving filler treatments or scar coverage, we typically ask that the hair be trimmed to the shortest length you plan to maintain, unless your practitioner requests something different. Those with severe Norwood 6 or 7 hair loss must shave their heads prior to treatment, and continuing to maintain that shaved appearance helps the SMP blend cohesively.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
We guide you on the proper products and steps to maintain your treatment throughout the entire SMP process. For additional support and a complimentary consultation, you may refer to the link provided on this page for detailed product recommendations.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
There is no issue with shaving your head regularly after your SMP is complete. The pigments remain intact through daily grooming, and we provide further recommendations regarding product use on our informational page.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
Shaving and washing your head every day will not negatively affect the treatment. Since the pigment sits securely in the epidermis, it holds up well under routine grooming. Many individuals maintain a daily shaving schedule and continue enjoying natural and consistent SMP results.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
Scalp micropigmentation fees are based on your unique situation, including how much hair loss has occurred, which regions of the scalp require pigment placement, and the amount of coverage needed to create a realistic and well balanced result. Most treatment plans involve two primary sessions spaced one week apart, followed by an optional third session one to three months later for final adjustments and artistic refinement. Scar concealment is typically priced between 800 and 1,000 dollars per session. Individuals with hair loss in categories 2 through 4 usually see costs between 2,400 and 3,400 dollars, while those in categories 5 through 7 generally fall within a 3,400 to 4,200 dollar range. A comprehensive three session plan that includes top-of-scalp restoration and scar blending is commonly priced between 4,200 and 5,200 dollars. Every quote is tailored to your unique hair loss pattern and cosmetic goals.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Exposure to sunlight can slowly reduce the depth and clarity of SMP pigments and may influence the health of the scalp itself. To maintain long lasting results, it is recommended to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to the scalp or wear a hat whenever extended sun exposure is expected. The consistent practice of protecting your scalp in this way ensures your treatment remains crisp and natural looking for years.
How much does it cost?
The cost of SMP is determined individually based on how advanced the hair loss is and how much work is required to reach your desired look. Most clients undergo two initial sessions that are spaced one week apart, followed by an optional third session one to three months afterward to enhance the final outcome. Scar concealment typically runs between 800 and 1,000 dollars per treatment. Pricing for class 2 to 4 hair loss generally ranges from 2,400 to 3,400 dollars, while class 5 to 7 treatments normally fall between 3,400 and 4,200 dollars. Complete top-of-scalp coverage with additional scar blending over two or three sessions typically totals between 4,200 and 5,200 dollars.
When are the payments due?
To confirm your spot on the schedule, a deposit of 400 dollars is needed, and most clients wait about eight weeks for the first available appointment. The remainder of the cost is usually divided between the first two scheduled treatments. Flexible financing plans are also provided for clients seeking payment alternatives.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!
Laura
I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
