Best Scalp Micropigmentation in Aliso Viejo, CA
FAQs
What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?
Scalp micropigmentation in Aliso Viejo is a contemporary method to treat hair loss by using pigments that are meticulously applied to replicate the look of natural hair follicles. This treatment is entirely non-surgical and can be customized to achieve many cosmetic goals, from the illusion of a closely shaved head to the addition of visual density in thinning areas. Many clients who have experienced hair transplants use SMP to enhance the appearance of coverage, while others choose it as a standalone option. Scalp micropigmentation is a great way to achieve the look of fuller, healthier hair with real-world results and long-lasting effects.
How many treatments do I need?
Most Scalp Micropigmentation treatments require a minimum of two appointments to complete. These sessions are usually spaced a week apart to allow the scalp to heal and the pigment to set properly. Initially, it's normal for some of the pigment to fade during the healing process. This is why additional sessions are important for consistent coverage and a natural look in terms of density. Many clients notice a huge difference after the first treatment, but the second treatment helps refine and strengthen the overall result. Sometimes, several weeks or months later, a third appointment may be recommended for further refinement and to finalize the look.
How long is each treatment?
The duration of an SMP session is determined by the treatment area and the desired result. Most appointments are two to four hours long. Most first sessions are longer because they involve establishing the foundation of the treatment, including hairline design and the initial pigment application. Follow-up appointments will likely be shorter, but timing may vary depending on how the scalp responds and the level of detail needed.
Who decides on the construction of the hairline?
The design of hairlines is a partnership between practitioner and client. Natural-looking results take into account factors such as facial proportions, scalp shape, age, and existing hair patterns. Your personal preferences are equally important so that the end design can embody both realism and individual style.
I've already had 3 treatments, now what?
Once your treatment plan and healing process is complete, you can enjoy the full benefits of your SMP results. We offer a 1-year guarantee against fading that may happen during this time and we will touch up when needed. Most clients then only need occasional maintenance appointments every few years to keep their SMP looking fresh and well-defined.
A "few years"? What does that mean exactly?
SMP is designed to give you lasting results and usually requires very little maintenance. Many clients return for a touch-up after 5 to 8 years since their treatment plan was completed. Gradual fading can occur over time due to natural changes in the skin and environmental factors. Occasional maintenance can help keep the treatment looking sharp and realistic.
What are the aftercare instructions?
The first few days post-treatment are vital to protect the newly applied pigment. Avoid washing your scalp, exercising, touching the treatment area or getting a haircut for four days. Wearing hats is generally not a problem and normal sleeping habits do not interfere with healing. Clients receive a detailed aftercare guide to help them confidently navigate the healing process.
So I don't need to take time off from work?
No major downtime is usually necessary. Since SMP does not involve surgery or a long recovery time, patients usually can return to work and most daily activities soon after treatment. The majority returns to work the next day after following the recommended aftercare instructions.
Will people be able to tell I have the treatment done?
The new pigment may appear stronger than expected after the first SMP session. At the start of the healing process, the impressions may look darker and more refined because the treatment is new. This appearance gradually softens as the pigment settles and the skin heals. Some redness is a normal reaction and will fade after a few days depending on the sensitivity of your own skin. The overall effect is becoming more subtle and natural as healing progresses so that the treatment blends seamlessly with the surrounding scalp for a realistic look.
Does it hurt?
In general, SMP is associated with mild discomfort. Clients frequently describe the feeling as much less intense than traditional tattoos. Individual pain threshold always is a factor but our practitioners are trained to focus on accuracy and ease to help make each session as easy as possible. The procedure is well-tolerated by most patients.
Do I need to keep the shaved look?
It depends on the quantity of hair you have and what you want to get out of the treatment. During your consultation, we will look at your pattern of hair loss and determine the most realistic style for you. For severe baldness, a shaved look is often the best option for clients as the pigment is made to look like closely cropped follicles. If there is enough natural hair left, the patient could be a great candidate for density treatments that blend in with their current style.
Do you also do scar concealment?
Yes. One of the many benefits of scalp micropigmentation is scar camouflage. Correctly applied pigment can help reduce the appearance of scars from hair transplant procedures, surgeries or injuries. The idea is to get a more even look that looks natural with the rest of the scalp.
Do I need to cut my hair before the SMP treatment?
The ideal hair length will depend on your treatment goals. Clients who are generally looking to enhance density or correct scarring are recommended to come in with shorter hair so that the treatment can be accurately matched. Those who are in an advanced stage of hair loss usually have a shaved scalp as the most realistic and effective result.
What do I do for optimal maintenance?
Long-term care is uncomplicated and starts with following the recommendations of your practitioner. We provide tailored advice and product recommendations based on your scalp condition, lifestyle and treatment goals to keep your SMP looking its best.
Do I have something to worry about when I continue to shave my head?
No. Shaving your head after the healing period is completely normal and does not pose a threat to the treatment. SMP is specifically designed to maintain its appearance even with regular grooming.
Will it affect the treatment if I continue to shave my head?
No. Frequent shaving and routine washing will not disturb the pigment once the scalp has healed. Many clients choose to shave daily and continue enjoying consistent, natural-looking results for years.
How much will the SMP treatment cost?
The price of scalp micropigmentation reflects the personal nature of the procedure. The overall cost will depend on the amount of hair loss, the size of the area to be treated and the density required to give the desired appearance. Most treatment plans start with two sessions one week apart which are the cornerstone of treatment. It gives the scalp a chance to heal and the practitioner a chance to build a realistic and consistent result over time. Some clients get a third session, scheduled between one and three months later, to add finishing touches and improve overall detail. The average cost of scar removal treatments is between $800-$1000 per treatment. Clients with Norwood 2-4 pattern baldness usually pay from $2,400 to $3,400. Larger Norwood 5 to 7 cases are in the $3,400 to $4,200 range. Clients who want 3 sessions with scar camouflage and additional coverage on the top of the scalp can expect to pay between $4,200 and $5,200. The quotes are tailored to the client’s scalp condition, expectations and long term goals.
How do I best protect my SMP from sunlight?
Protecting your scalp from too much sun exposure will assist in preserving the look of your SMP for years to come. Prolonged exposure to ultra-violet rays may gradually dull the brightness of pigment. When outside, apply broad spectrum sunscreen and wear protective headwear to maintain a natural, consistent appearance, and support long term results.
How much does it cost?
The cost of SMP depends on the degree of hair loss, the extent of scalp coverage needed and the treatment goals. Most clients start with two sessions and may opt for a third to further enhance their results. Scar camouflage services cost, on average, $800 to $1,000 per session. Hair loss levels 2 to 4 typically range from $2,400 to $3,400. Advanced levels 5 to 7 typically range from $3,400 to $4,200. For larger coverage areas, scar blending treatments typically range from $4,200 to $5,200 for full treatment plans.
When are the payments due?
A $400 deposit is required to reserve treatment dates. Due to limited appointment availability, scheduling is often done several weeks in advance. The balance is typically used to pay for the first two sessions of treatment. Financing options may be available for clients seeking even more flexibility.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!

I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

Thank u so much Walter and Ridd for your excellent customer service and I can't be any happier with the results. Walter is truly a master of his craft and he was able to hide my scar very well. I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!
