Male Pattern Baldness in TARZANA

Male Pattern Baldness in TARZANA

Male pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia, is the most common type of hair loss in men, affecting approximately 85% of men during their lifetime. The condition is primarily caused by genetics, which makes scalp hair follicles more sensitive to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Over time, DHT causes the follicles to shrink, resulting in finer, weaker hair that eventually stops growing altogether.

The typical progression of male pattern baldness starts with a receding hairline, followed by thinning at the crown, and ultimately leads to hair loss on the entire top of the head.

What Causes Male Pattern Baldness?

Hair loss in men is primarily influenced by genetics and male sex hormones known as androgens. These hormones are essential for various bodily functions, including supporting hair growth.

For most men, hair grows in a cycle, but those dealing with hair loss experience a weakened cycle. This results in the gradual shrinkage of hair follicles, which causes thinning hair and, eventually, complete baldness.

How is Male Pattern Baldness Diagnosed and How Does it Influence Hair Loss?

Male pattern baldness is characterized by a specific pattern of hair loss, typically starting at the hairline and crown. This condition is primarily driven by genetics and hormonal influences, which are key contributors to hair loss and other related disorders.

Stages of Male Pattern Baldness

The Hamilton-Norwood scale is used to measure the progression of hair loss in men, ranging from stage 1, which is the mildest, to stage 7, where there is complete baldness on the top of the head. At stages 1 to 3, hairline recession is mild to moderate, with gradual thinning of the hair.

As individuals reach Norwood stages 4 to 5, hair loss becomes more severe, affecting both the front of the scalp and the crown, showing noticeable thinning. Stages 6 and 7 indicate nearly total or complete hair loss from the top of the scalp, with little or no remaining hair.

There are also rare forms of male pattern baldness, including diffuse thinning across the entire scalp without affecting the hairline, and localized hair loss in the crown area without recession of the hairline.

Treatment For Male Pattern Hair Loss in Tarzana: Scalp Micropigmentation

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-invasive solution for male-pattern baldness that uses specialized tattooing techniques to replicate the appearance of hair follicles. Regardless of the severity of hair loss, SMP can create the illusion of a full, thick head of hair.

Unlike hair transplants, which rely on a limited number of donor grafts, SMP can instantly provide any desired hair density, with no downtime required for recovery.

At Zang SMP in Tarzana, we utilize organic, plant-based pigments to mimic the look of natural hair follicles. This treatment results in a buzzed, shaved look instead of a completely bald scalp. SMP provides a quick, effective, and non-surgical way to restore your appearance, improving your confidence without the need for painful procedures.

Typically, SMP treatments consist of two to three sessions, with the first two occurring a week apart. If a third session is needed, it is scheduled 1 to 3 months later to perfect the results.

Just finished my 3rd session with Walter, best investment ever. I've tried everything short of a hair transplant over the past ten years and eventually stumbled upon SMP. I searched and researched the best SMP practitioners in the country and then decided to call the folks at Zang. Ridwan expertly walked me through the whole procedure and answered all of my questions.
If you're comfortable with the buzz cut look, SMP is the only way to go. And the team at Zang SMP are the real deal, true artists.

As a female, I didn't want to leave a public review in fear of someone I know seeing it - but at the same time, I want everyone to know about the amazingness that Zang SMP is!!! As someone who struggled with severe postpartum hair loss and a receding hair line, I really thought I would be a slave to hair powders and fillers for life (if not a transplant) and that has all changed!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire experience!! If you are female and hesitant to do this, DON'T BE!!! It will change your life!!! Huge thank you to Ridwan, Walter, and the rest of the guys at Zang!! Forever grateful!

I don't normally write reviews cause it's a waste of my time but I have to this time. Over the last 20 years, I've done 3 hair transplant procedures and I was not happy with the results. I started looking into SMP and call many places before I settled with ZangSMP. It's a bit more expensive but let me tell you, worth every pennies. After the 2nd time, everyone said there's no sign that I was ever bald. And what can I say about Walter. I couldn't thank him enough. He gave me the confident I needed and a new look in life. He's such a perfectionist and took the time to do it right and make sure I'm happy with the result. I even recommended my brother to give him a call.

I had gone to a different smp place before but wasnt happy with results. Zang Smp gave me the results I was looking for. There a reason why they have 5 stars on their reviews! Highly recommend!

These guys changed my life for the better. I have had alopecia for 10 years, wearing wigs and being generally uncomfortable. I was looking for a long-term solution to my alopecia and this was it. Ridwan is a delight to set things up with, and Walter has a real eye for the details. This is worth the money. A load has been lifted and I couldn’t be happier. My only regret is not coming here sooner!

Zang is THE most skilled and experienced SMP practitioner BY FAR. I have had multiple treatments with him to fill in the density in my hair and beard, and the results are amazing. People don't even believe I've had anything done until I show them my before/after pics. Zang is a great guy with an incredible attention to detail, and his work has restored my confidence big time. I really can't recommend him enough. 5 stars!

FAQ’s

What can I expect during the SMP treatment?

dropdown-arrow

Each session will last 2-4 hours depending on the complexity of your case. For most clients who undergo our SMP treatment, the pain is not as intense as a traditional tattoo. Pain tolerance is case to case per client, but your health and safety is our priority. Our Zang SMP practitioners will ensure the process is as smooth as possible.

How will my head look immediately after my treatment?

dropdown-arrow

You will immediately see a fresh, natural hairline and a coverage of new hair density on your scalp. The pigment will look bolder at first, and there will be some minor redness in the treated area. The redness will disappear within 2-3 days, and the pigment will be mostly settled within about a week.

How long does the SMP treatment last?

dropdown-arrow

Typically with our clients, we expect touch-ups within the 5-8 year mark. This is a permanent procedure that will last forever, but it will lighten up over time due to wear and tear and the turnover of your skin cells.

How many SMP treatments do I need for male pattern baldness?

dropdown-arrow

It depends on the severity of your hair loss. For men with mild to moderate loss (Norwood 1-4), you can expect 2 treatments within about one week, and in some cases, you may need a 3rd session a few months later. For men with severe hair loss (Norwood 5-7), you will need 3 sessions to achieve the desired result.

Do I need to take time off work, or follow any aftercare instructions?

dropdown-arrow

Our Scalp Micropigmentation is non-invasive and nonsurgical. There is no downtime associated with it, you only need to follow the 4-day aftercare instructions (no liquids on the scalp, and wear a hat when outdoors). Many of our clients come in for treatment, go back home on the same day, and start work again the following day!

Who decides on the construction of the hairline?

dropdown-arrow

At Zang SMP, the hairline design is a collaborative process. We consider factors such as your individual features and personal preferences to create the most natural and suitable result. Our goal is to ensure that your new hairline complements your overall appearance while aligning with your desired look.

Do I need to shave my head?

dropdown-arrow

If we are recreating a new hairline and treating areas of scalp that are completely bald, you will need to shave your head every two days. This will prevent a contrast between the existing hair on the sides of your head, and the two-dimensional scalp micropigmentation treatment we have created. If you have some existing hair to work with, we can fill in the density with SMP and you can keep your hair longer. The hair length you can keep with SMP is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Is SMP a hair tattoo?

dropdown-arrow

Not quite. Our technique utilizes specialized organic plant-based pigments with a fine point needle in order to create a hyper-realistic appearance of follicles on the head. It is a permanent cosmetics procedure and a proven form of hair restoration. Standard tattoo equipment is not capable of creating a realistic result for those who are looking to restore their hair.

Will SMP ever turn blue, or become blurry over time?

dropdown-arrow

No. Our technique is specifically designed not to do this, and we have seen case studies going back as far as 15 years. Our pigments maintain proper tone over the long term so they will always match the color of your hair. We deposit the pigments only two layers deep into the skin, which ensures that no spreading or blurring will ever occur.

What if my hair goes gray after my SMP treatment?

dropdown-arrow

Not to worry! Since the pigment also fades over time, there will never be a mismatch between your SMP treatment and the color of your hair. We have had clients who came back for a touch up after many years, and their hair had turned gray since the initial procedure. In these types of cases, we always see that the pigment has lightened up and that it still looks natural. We do a touch up with a different shade of ink to match their new hair color, and their hair looks fully dense again and completely natural!

What should I do for optimal maintenance of my treatment?

dropdown-arrow

We recommend sun protection (SPF 50+ sunscreen, or a hat) if you are going to be in the sun for multiple hours. Excessive sun exposure can shorten the life of your treatment and cause you to need a touch up sooner. If you have a dry scalp, we suggest applying moisturizer every day.

How much does it cost?

dropdown-arrow

For mild-moderate (Norwood 1-4) hair loss, it is $2400-$3400. For severe (Norwood 5-7) hair loss, it is $3400-$4200. If we are treating the entire top of the scalp and also concealing hair transplant scars, the cost ranges from $4200-$5200.
